There have been times during Shanes times on the show that he has shined imo.Not many but some when the storyline has been biggish and well crafted. However in recent months and especially since Alfie returned from Oz I have found his acting to be distinctly stand out poor.Just an opinion but I have found him to be a weak link, self aware and cringe especially against Jessie and particularly in his scene were he told Max about Janines offer of a deal. Anyone agree? Ive always seen Shane as weaker than Jessie but now it really shows. |

I don't think his acting has got any worse. That's impossible. |

It's not getting any better ![]() He's better than he was in his first stint, and he was at his best during the baby swap. But his acting has gotten very predictable, take for example fridays ep. Where Kat said she was just off to the shops (but secretly going to give a false witness statement), and she said 'I'm sorry' and he gave that unsure smirk he always does. I actually did enjoy Alfie on fridays episode cause he spoke a lot of truth but Shane hasn't been performing that well I think. Either the baby swap tapped into what he could do well or he was proving himself being back in EE and has become complacent? I don't see a point in Kat and Alfie anymore to be honest, they're just remnants of a by-gone era and only Kat has a future I think. I'd love to see her try to move on from Alfie if he say died or just disappeared somehow. Would be good to see her raise 3 kids considering Alfie's always tried to be the family man and she's the one running around and keeping secrets. |

There have been a few times his acting has been good. Examples like Nana Moon's death and the reveal of Kat's shagger. But on the whole I've never rated him highly. Lately his acting has declined a lot as has the writing for the character of Alfie. If I'm honest I always despised Alfie. That cheeky chappy rubbish gets right on my nerves and I don't find him in the least bit funny or endearing. He's a constant irritant. |

Your carefully articulated honesty is why any decent uk soap forum benefits from your presence. B-) In retrospect I think 2010 should have been the year the vic went to a new family and the moons shouldnt have been brought back. |

The thing that annoys me most about Alfie/Shane, is that when it was either Kat or Roxy dressed up, he'd just start garbling nonsense like 'Oh Wowwee woo waa yowza'. I hope to find a link on youtube in a moment to prove what I mean cause I have a feeling my quote won't register, but argh it frustrated me. |

He talks to them like he talks to Tommy. I'm waiting for the day when he is gurgling away & starts dribbling. Alfie that is, not Tommy. |

I found him actually quite ok this week m. Normally I can't stand him. Maybe I was too annoyed with other things he fell off my radar. |

I still think Shane does well in the drama scenes, but Alfie usually isn't very likable in those kind of scenes. But I do think he is utterly intolerable when he is playing the comedic, clownish Mr Nice Guy. It's just far, far too much. As Julia Smith would say: "He's pleased with himself." |

I don't think he's a bad actor, per se. Just sometimes so hammy it makes me want to rip off my arms. I hark back to the notorious condom episode, for example, or really any "hilarious" comedy moment in the same vein. When he does serious, he does it pretty well. The two hander after he found out Kat had slept with Andy is one of my favourite episodes. |

His "acting" cannot get any worse. It has reached the pinnacle of bad acting. |

I don't think his acting has got particularly worse, but something about Alfie has become more irritable than ever. Perhaps it's the writing, perhaps Ritchie is just managing to seep arrogance into every moment he is on screen. I just want him gone. Badly. |

Shane thinks Alfie deciding whether to have curry or Indian for dinner is a massive storyline. He is so irritating and in complete denial. He is 50 years old this month as well so needs to start acting his age more. He is 50 not 20 anymore.

I don't think Shane Ritchie's acting has got worse. In fact, in his second stint it has improved markedly. It has perhaps become predictable, though. I think the main problem, as usual with EastEnders is shoddy writing. When Alfie first arrived in 2003 whatever you thought of Shane Ritchie's performance, Alfie was a well-rounded character with intrigue and presence. In his first stint he was portrayed as clever and resourceful (except when hunting a condom) and someone who could charm the bark off the trees. Upon his return in 2010, he became a 1-Dimensional parody of himself, an emasculated wimp and a blithering idiot. |

I think he's perfectly capable of stepping up to the plate with darker and more dramatic material. He was very good during the likes of the baby swap story, the Kat shagger reveal and Ronnie's return episodes last year. He's been pretty decent this week as well IMO. It's when he starts going overboard with the cheeky-chappy routine that it becomes irritating. I can't remember who said it but they summed it up well a while back in saying that it was basically just Shane Richie playing himself. That and I still haven't quite gotten over what he said last year about how the audience love seeing Kat and Alfie splitting up and getting back together all the time. |

Shane's acting has been hit and miss for me since Kat's departure in 2004 (just look at his Molfie period compared to Nana Moon's death). As Ian says in 2003 he was a rather well rounded character, but in this past year when he's been dithering between Kat and Roxy, trying to be Mr. Nice Guy to everyone and work out how to get what he wants without hurting anyone else, his performance has just come across as slightly pathetic; a man who is trying so hard to be universally liked/loved that he couldn't make a firm decision for fear of someone seeing the side of him he keeps hidden 99% of the time. When he's been hitting the drama ('Tommy's' death, ShaggerReveal) he has mostly managed to pull it out of the bag, not with the same 'rawness' Jessie often portrays, but enough to hold his own, but when he's being 'everyday Alfie' the cheeky chappy routine makes him very 1D and somewhat annoying. I don't know if anyone else managed to catch Shane's newest game show 'Reflex'? I must admit that I couldn't decide who was hosting it - Shane or Alfie. |

He reminds me of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins recently, which is baffling and I don't quite understand what's happening. Mind you, he's always been hit or miss, but rather good in serious/emotional scenes. Is his acting getting worse? Yeah, a bit. He's getting comfortable maybe, so not pulling his weight much. Anyway, I've been over him since he left Roxy the way he did. |

Except Dick Van Dyke's attempt at a cockney accent remains to this day, one of the most gratingly embarrassing accent parodies ever plastered onto any screen big or small

Shane's second stint on the show has exceeded the duration of his first. Perhaps, he has realised that pantos and budget quiz shows don't pay all that well. |
