Kat and Alfie are my favorite characters....As for Shane, I've always liked his work....But sometimes, the writers give him very little to do or less than thrilling dialogue....Therefore, he does the best he can with what he is given to work with. |

Oh, I think you're all mean. He's not that bad! When he's doing scene's with the likes of Jessie, Lacey or Jake it's pretty noticeable that they outshine him because they're such brilliant actors, but that says more about their acting than it does his. His acting skills are perfectly adequate for the role. He's playing Alfie Moon, not Hamlet. |

I like Shane/Alfie. I do roll by eyes now and then but I think he's proven that he can deliver when they give him something real to do. Unfortunately, he's rarely given the opportunity. Alfie is meant to be the cheeky chappy type and Shane's just giving them what they want. Can't fault him for that. You do what you get paid to do, I guess. It's not even the cheeky chappy thing I have a problem with. It's the OTTness of it that can get annoying. If Alfie weren't so one dimensional, he wouldn't be so OTT. And, even though Alfie is an easy target, he is not the only character that suffers from it. In one way or another, all of the characters have become one dimensional and, in effect, OTT. It's a chronic problem throughout the show. As for the idea that Shane just plays himself, I've gotta admit, I don't believe that's exactly true. I get this feeling that Shane, the private person, is not the happy-go-lucky guy he presents to the public. If anything, I suppose Alfie is very similar to his public persona...but, in the end, it's almost all an act. Jack Dee once said, "Comedy and tragedy are two sides of the same coin. A talent in one area might also lead to a predisposition in the other." I've always had the feeling that this is very true of Shane and that he's probably a bit more dark and brooding behind closed doors. |

When he's given the right material, no. As bad as the fire storyline was for the character, it was good for him as an actor. The man hate as others have said, needs to go from the writing room. I do cringe when the "lovely people" line crops up in the show, though; that seems very Shane Richie. |
