Is Lauren Branning to be the second EastEnders murder victim? And is Ronnie Mitchell the killer that everyone has overlooked? David Brown weighs up the evidence.

From the official EastEnders Facebook page:

"We'll be revealing a little secret after tonight's episode, when we premiere "Lucy Beale: Plotting the murder" - a video featuring exclusive interviews with cast and crew. Find out first who definitely DIDN'T kill Lucy Beale... Any ideas?"

The article is just speculating on the possibility of another character being killed off. It hasn't confirmed that someone else will die.

It's an interesting theory though. From the way the pre-Christmas twist is described it's something that will completely throw everything up in the air, and another murder would fit that. On the flipside though it would run the risk of taking attention away from the Beales, who are meant to be at the heart of this story.

Unless the victim of a possible second murder was a suspect in Lucy's death who discovered the killers identity, maybe Jake meets a grizzly end as he's poised to leave in the autumn.

This is a story about Lucy and the Beales, not a serial killer.
"I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver

I like the sound of this VERY much.

I'd say Patrick and possibly Dot will be ruled out.

This story was made for an 'EastEnders Revealed' episode tbh. :$

From Jake Wood's interview with DS today, I would say it's not Max.

Ronnie or Nick Cotton make the most sense to me. They would therefore be the least disappointing culprits. There's some potential for a brilliant story with both of them too, as it ties in well with what we've already seen from them.

After the final scene of tonights episode I would be very disappointed if Peter had anything to do with Lucy's death. I dont think it was him but some see him as one of the suspects. Lauren, Abi or Max are the 3 top culprits. Putting my Hercule Poirot hat on I would plump for Lauren. Although the highest suspect can be a red herring.

Looks like we will be seeing Lucy again on the day of her funeral. Hetti mentions lying in a coffin on the BBC website behind the scenes interview.

I think that was a joke...

Also, Stacey has officially been ruled out by Dom himself. Glad I didn't put a bet on her.

That behind the scenes video was pretty good. Makes me miss the EE revealed shows. 30 mins to an hour of real in depth behind the scenes. I have been watching the show a long time now cause DTC doesn't look as young as I remember him being.

Funny how the tone of an episode can change things. Over the weekend, all I could so was obsess over who killed her. Tonight, it totally seems like the secondary thing.

Thank you, Madam, for posting that. The writer summed up Christie's ethos to perfection. She puts together a puzzle and tricks the reader into looking in the wrong places for the missing piece. And sometimes, it's the most obvious suspect.

Given that this story is going to last some time, I think it's good that the focus isn't always on who killed her. I mean I'm willing to wait it out and see how it develops but I don't want to be talking about who killed Lucy Beale every day for 10 more months.

I dont think it will be Laren, although she will be a suspect for a long time (just to keep her in the spot light). DTC is hardly going to let his star character head off to the nasty old slammer is he?
Just livin' in perfect New Zealand!
