The coke, "Nick's" corpse, Carl's death and Stacey's key, which Lauren has. All parts of the puzzle. Just like Agatha Christie. Remember two things from Christie, which DTC is using and will use - false motive and unreliable narrator/witness.
If all these strands are interconnected it'll be blooming impressive. But one thing I'm sure of if DTC is echoing Christie another murder will be committed.

I think there is a chance that one person sent the text, one person met her and one person killed her.

Three different people? Cause that's what I think to otherwise it would be too simple a storyline to carry on for so long. Even on this thread people are already convinced it's whomever. If they didn't throw a couple of different suspects and trains of thought then it would be solved fairly quickly. They will probably find the phone and the person who sent the text will be a suspect. Then they will find a witness who saw her with someone else and they will be the front runner. and so on and so forth until the responsible person is revealed.

I'm going to have to go with Johnny Carter. Lucy letting student flats in Walford and Johnny being at Uni... Johnny has an appointment to view a flat, but Lucy plans to flee Walford with secret dealer Johnny's stash money, blackmailing him into telling his family (which would be too painful for Johnny) - she walks the shortcut through the Common towards the Square trying to call Johnny's bluff, who follows her... and panics.

The truth factor is in the fact that rejection/disdain from family/parents is almost unbearable, as Johnny partly knows with Linda's struggles to come to terms with his sexuality.

There is our killer. Johnny Carter.

And maybe Johnny didn't have any money to hand over (but Lucy believed he did)

If the person doesn't know that they killed her, how will they ever admit to it or have it proven that they did it unless there's CCTV footage which would make the killing a lot simpler to solve?

I keep thinking that if the person does not know then maybe it could be the fall that Max caused. Why did that happen? Of course, I am sure its one of many ideas planted. But it can happen for sure that one dies days after a hit on the head. Maybe made worse by cocaine use...
I have not read all the other posts on this, sorry if I am repeating or missing something.

I would guess an argument gone wrong and upon finding out of the death of Lucy they will realise that they caused her death.
I think they left her in a moment of panic after an argument became physical.

I don't think there will be CCTV footage of the actual confrontation as I personally believe it took place where Lucy was discovered, but there could be CCTV of briefly before the incident outside the flats.

Of course, there'll be another murder. You'll also get a false motive and an unreliable witness who appears to be on the side of the investigators.

This is VERY much like "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd."

I suppose what goes against the person not knowing they killed Lucy is if the police's theory that it was set up to look like a botched mugging is true.

Unless there was a struggle because someone wanted something that either Lucy had or they thought she had but Lucy knew the person. It could have literally been a mugging that went wrong by someone she knew. But I don't think Lucy would have gone to the Common with someone she didn't trust particularly at night.

Police will probably be looking for a weapon as Lucy was found with head trauma. They will be looking for a weapon or signs of blood on the branch that was lying in front of her, in case someone pushed or hit her and she struck her head on it.

Someone may well have accidentally killed Lucy on the Common or elsewhere and pulled themselves together enough to try and cover their tracks like Steve Owen did.

Or the "mugging" situation is a total red-herring and someone discovered her body who was not responsible for killing her and didn't report it. They could have made it look like a mugging, intentionally if they thought it might lead the police to them or perhaps if Lucy had something incriminating that could be traced back to them in her bag.

I'd be looking at Jake there. I don't think it was him but he may be involved somehow. He may be the patsy in a drug-running scheme that Lucy was involved with.

Quoting limited to 2 levels deep

I would say that it might be Jake who is the next one down.

The audience wouldn't care enough about him for it to overshadow Lucy but it would still have enough impact. He'll turn up dead somewhere.

I personally think Jake discovered Lucy's body and took her phone to cover any tracks that he was with her earlier that evening.
He'll either go down for something connected for her death or leave in a box...perhaps at the hands of Charlie or Aleks.

That'd be amazing, and involve about half the cast!!

What is the context of Stacey's key?

My memory is a little hazy on that one.

I think DTC wants to make the show a lot darker, it feels almost like a mystery drama as opposed to a soap opera now. Personally, I like it but only if it can be sustained with believable characterisation. Characterisation is still shaky and we are getting to the point where DTC will have had enough time to stamp his own ethos on the show, therefore, will be unable to blame Kirkwood or Newman if it goes wrong. This will be the making or breaking of DTC, hopefully the making because I want the show to be as good as it can be.

No. Because only the stupid would see a gay person murder someone on a fictional television programme and then assume that every other gay person is a murderer.

No. There wasn't with Ben. He is a gay murderer.

It won't be Johnny. It won't be any character introduced within the last three years. Someone in that category may be an accessory but Johnny will have no impact and this is a character from one of the original families. It has to have impact and the only one who would have less impact than Johnny is Aleks.

It might be a returning character but not a new one.

In terms of the key, perhaps its the hotel room key? Cant see why Stacey would give it to Lauren though.

I'm still not convinced the head trauma is a fresh trauma from the max incident. Also, I can't decide if the max incident is relevant or another red herring.

"Trauma" suggest it was visible and more than a cut which is all Lucy received in Max's office.

Interestingly, we didn't see any visible trauma when Ian identified Lucy's body or when she was actually on the Common.

Eyes up, Guardian.
Yeah that was my issue with the Second Impact Syndrome theory - they took pains to show Lola suffering from the symptoms of concussion whereas Lucy fell over and cut her head and trotted off quite unscathed apart from that. Even the fact that she was bleeding means nothing - I could fall out of my front door and bleed like I'd been shot but just have a relatively superficial cut.
