Article confirming news and returns of Jamie Lomas and Tanya Franks and the writer will be Jesse O'Mahoney who wrote Good Friday 2014

It will definitely be from Lucy's perspective until the moment of death. Then it will go to the perspective of the killer or anyone who covered it up.

Lucy is the only one who knows all that happened that night and she is dead so it's the only way.

Jacqueline Jossa has probably filmed her parts already. Sam Strike doesn't need to be in it, Johnny has no relevance to the plot.

Jamie Lomas and Tanya Franks need to be in it and it's good that they are coming back for this.

It could never work with just the story being told no matter how good the actor telling the story is, it's too convoluted and no one living person knows all of what happened. The question is: will we find out the killer before the flashback and the flashback is there to explain how it happened or will the killer be revealed in the flashback?

Thought it deserved it's own thread.

Looks as though someone has broken a midnight embargo, but it looks pretty reliable with all of the quotes they've included in the article.

Edit: The article has since been deleted... hope this doesn't get me in to too much trouble.
Weblink's working now.

So, Jesse O'Mahoney has written the flashback episode, same writer as the Good Friday episode.

This will work fine if it's approached the same way as the Portugal flashbacks. The end of the episode before needs to be either someone saying something like "This is how it happened.." or potentially Ian saying "I wish I knew what happened that night..." and some sort of fade out effect.

The next episode should then begin with Lucy in shot and also the date of April 18 marked on the calendar. The entire episode is then self-contained showing us what happened that night and ending with Lucy's death.

We pick back up on the killer in present time at the start of the following episode then. It will work.

While this is not EE's first flashback episode, it is the first time they've done one flashing back to an event or a place and time that we've already partly seen.

So relieved this is happening. I was starting to doubt it. I liked Hetti as Lucy and glad we get to see her again.

I'm really pleased for Hetti more than anything. She has been at the heart of this and yet not been on screen for nine months. She deserves it.

"I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver

Such exciting news. Chuffed.

Thought this would be a good place to get soppy. It's so overwhelming to me how attached I have gotten to this story, just like many have if the 105 page "Who Killed Lucy" thread is anything to go by. DTC, whether you like all the aspects of his work or not, has completely rejuvenated the show. Things like this story, a flashback episode, live week etc allows a show that is almost 30 years old to still take on new ground and be fresh. This past year has been phenomenal and I feel for the first time in years, there's a real emotional journey we go on with the characters. There's development. The cast is easily the strongest they've had in decades. The show has its vitality and power back and after us all dragging ourselves through the generally below par 2011-2013 period, it feels so good to be positive the show.

It's cool to be an EastEnders fan again. Who'd have thought we'd be able to say that when Dot was looking for her lost ham?

Flashback episodes are rarely a good idea but here it is warranted.

I'm keen to see thematically if Lucy died in some way as a result of her good intentions. I don't think that line about wanting to be a better person was just random or just a half baked attempt to make her sympathetic. She composed that text for Peter before saying it, she didn't send the text afterwards. We also know she got Jake home and he said was kind. It would be all the more heartbreaking, even ironic, if sending Peter the msg meant he would have actually met and been able to protect her. It'd be interesting to know if, say, she'd just left Jake sozzled she may not have put herself in harms way.

Totally! I always felt sorry for the girl. I don't think she ever reached the potential she had to offer so the fact that the entire 30th anniversary will be all about Hetti is quite fitting. She really does deserve it.

They've confirmed we'll find out the killer on the actual anniversary which is the wedding. The flashback episode has to be on the Friday meaning we'll get the reveal first and then see how it happened.
Warning: Posts made by The Local Butcher may contain sarcasm, frustrated expressions of fatigue in the face of Eastenders' neverending insanity, desperate and ill-conceived attempts to be funny, controversial opinions and nuts. Not necessarily in that order.

Fantastic, but not surprising news.

I loved the ''Who Shot Calvin'' flashback episode HO did a few years back, so I think EE will be great with this concept.

And it'll be great to see Hetti Bywater back as Lucy. I liked Lucy and thought Hetti improved towards the end, still would rather it be Lauren Branning who was killed off instead, oh well:(.

Jake and Rainie returning too? Good.
