Maybe I'm reading too much into it but Tanya Franks makes a strange comment in the article. She said something along the lines of "Was Ian really with Rainie on Good Friday?" Not sure what to make of that...

I'm really pleased for Hetti more than anything. She has been at the heart of this and yet not been on screen for nine months. She deserves it.
Totally! I always felt sorry for the girl. I don't think she ever reached the potential she had to offer so the fact that the entire 30th anniversary will be all about Hetti is quite fitting. She really does deserve it.
I agree with this! Only right that Hetti is back and is involved, she'll obviously find out first who killed Lucy and I hope there is an EE Revealed planned.

I have no issue with a flashback episode as a concept and I'm really looking forward to seeing for myself exactly what happened, rather than having a character tell us and still having that element of doubt as to whether they're finally telling the whole truth. But I seriously hope it's not as clunky as "Here's how it happened ..." and the camera crews reach for the soft filter! I hope they go for something simple like showing Lucy from the start so the audience just knows "Hey, she's dead, this must be a flashback" or another character thinking back to that night - we don't have to stay with their "view" of things so we could still get what really happened and not an unreliable narrator. But actually having someone specifically explain it all is a bit too "Sit and listen to me for half-an-hour while I tell you my fiendish plan ..."

When they did Diane's flashback episode(s?), they just started a new episode, with the caption "3 months ago" (or thereabouts, don't quote me, I was less than 10 years old!). There was no soft focus, voice over etc. It was just a normal episode, following Diane. If they follow that format I can buy it.

That said, I wasn't mortally offended by the Portugal flashback as there wasn't much Phil voiceover and the "Here's what happened" was the duff duff on the previous episode, then the next ep opened in Portugal.

For me, the ideal would be for the killer to be revealed or reveal themselves as the duff duff on the 19th, with the flashback opening the next episode so the viewer can learn what really happened. It would be awesome if there were further twists along the way, but we'll wait and see on that.

I can't help but think of the reveal on the recent bbc series The Missing - where the kid was hit by a drunk driver who thought he'd killed him, hid his body and arranged for someone to dispose of it, only for the boy to come around and the chap who was supposed to get rid of his body then killed him in cold blood (or so we were led to believe). I think a similar approach might account for the involvement of multiple people, with the ultimate killer being the most upsetting. Perhaps she wouldn't have died if not for earlier events?

In this case though I don't think one character is going to be able to tell us everything that happened to Lucy that night.

I wonder how they'll explain Johnny and Dexter's absence from the party. Were Bianca and Terry meant to have gone too?
Maybe Dexter in Particular will be seen. Khali Best might have filmed the scenes already or have returned. Even Johnny might.
I suspect Hetti has known about this all along.

I'm guessing the actor playing Lee will have to shave his hair off

They've confirmed we'll find out the killer on the actual anniversary which is the wedding. The flashback episode has to be on the Friday meaning we'll get the reveal first and then see how it happened.
The flashback could be on the 19th with the wedding split between 18th and the 20th but the 19th in Walford.
It sounds like some scene in the flashback may be live which is very interesting.

I could kiss DTC right now. I know he's not perfect, but he's really managed to turn EastEnders around and make it a must-watch show again. My work has been buzzing over this news this morning.

Fantastic, but not surprising news.

I loved the ''Who Shot Calvin'' flashback episode HO did a few years back, so I think EE will be great with this concept.

Technically that was a flash forward episode! Where they went forward by 6 months, which was quite interesting to see what would be different.

One important return that they haven't announced yet: Tramp.

I think that's a pretty good list but we also need to see Billy and Lee. I'd also like to see Pam either leaving or returning, even if it's nothing to do with Lucy's death. Tramp and the cab driver will have to be there too.

He will appear in a flashback two hander (or rather, paw-er) between himself and Lady Di. She was obviously the ringleader, and Tramp her fiendish accomplice. They slobbered Lucy to death and both legged it.

There. Called it ages ago.

Good article, I wholeheartedly agree. Not only to we need to see the reveal but the whereabouts of the other suspects of Good Friday. Hopefully we'll see scenes at Roxy's party - perhaps these may be the live scenes in the flashback ep. I'm not sure we need Danny Pennant back though.

One niggle with the Radio Times article: Lauren said she went to Lucy's house because, at the party, she felt that she wanted a drink; and Lucy had a way of persuading her not to drink. She said no one answered the door so she went home.

And if, after all of this, Danny Pennant is found to be the killer, DTC should be taken out and smacked.

No it's not Danny, he was out of the country by then. It's defintely one of the suspects highlighted on New Years Day Episode.

According to the police, Danny left for Marbella weeks ago.

I believe that Johnny Carter didn't go to Italy, he flew over to Marbella to be with him instead.

How about this for a twist. On Thursday Jane reveals Ian did it. Explains all of our theory, mental health, doesn't remember it, protecting him from his memory etc. Then on the flashback, you see Jane did it and she's using Ian because people will protect him.

She's not keen on police involvement as she doesn't want herself under suspicion and she doesn't want people to realise what she's done, hence hiding the phone to hinder the investigation.

Phil Ben and jay think it was Ian, they frame nick, Jane gets away with no one knowing it was her and believing it was Ian, whom they are all protecting.

Fits a twist :D

I was just wondering: if the Beales feature heavily in the flashback episode, as one would expect, will they be using the new Bobby or the old one? Somehow I think it would feel weird either way.

Or perhaps it'll all be set late at night, with Bobby tucked up in bed. Unless of course he's Lucy's killer. B-)

Adam Woodyatt has grown his hair a bit since that episode, it seems. He and the guy who plays Lee will have to have to sort that out.

I would imagine that everyone in the episode was told beforehand not to cut their hair shorter in case it didn't grow back on time!

I'm guessing they forgot to mention that the actor who played the taxi driver will be back too.
