"Things die" should be the new EastEnders tagline at this rate. |
| "I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver | |

Dot won't be the one who kills Nick, it will be Ronnie is my best guess. Dot will get accused and there will be a trial but it will come out she didn't do it. Nick will die anniversary week...30 years after he killed Reg Cox. |

Mrs Doyle should scold him to death with tea. Fitting. |

1. Why are they killing off another original character? 2. Why another murder so soon? 3. Why make yet another character a killer? 4. Why involve Dot in that way? |

Dot might get arrested but she probably isn't the one who kills him . Ronnie or Yvonne are better bets . Even in that last few weeks we have seen how Nick treats Yvonne and how he could push her to the limit. Maybe it is OTT , but I'm up for a bit of that. It will be good just to get people talking about the show like they have in recent weeks . Everyone knows who Dot is , this storyline has the potential to be a real word of mouth story to help bring viewers back so I think it is a good idea . And as long as no Carters are involved , I'm happy to see this story play out . |

Having read the Digital Spy report on it, it seems clear Dot isn't the culprit, thank God. Talk about jumping the shark. |

I think it could be a case that she *thinks* she killed him, but it is in fact someone else, probably Veronica. |

That'd be fun. Guilty Dot's always good value for money. |

What DTC said about Ronnie "The question with Ronnie is 'Is she her father’s daughter?' And I think with Ronnie we are going to see how somebody becomes a villain. "I keep talking about Darth Vader. The making of a villain. Not a soap bitch, but a villain." |

So Dot's (probably) going to lose Nick and Jim in the same year and be accused of Nick's murder. Ugh. |

It's quite fitting his death takes place exactly 30 years after he killed Reg Cox. He had to pay for that sooner or later and what better way than being murdered by dear old ma Dorothy? Or was it someone else? That's the question.

Maybe they actually decide to fake Nick's death for real with the police, and the police try to tie Dot to it to get to the truth? To complicated? |

My initial reaction too ![]() Got to say, I know that London is the capital and all that and therefore you'd expect more murders/suspicious deaths than average, but a certain corner called 'Walford' is terrifying and one to avoid if you want to live to a ripe old age!

Why is the reaction to this so negative? Nick Cotton was marked for death years ago. It is about time he got his comeuppance. It has also become apparent from recent interviews that John Altman and/or the producers wanted this to be Nick's final stint. Nick deserves a massive exit - and to be killed off on-screen. If John had never gone back after this stint, knowing our luck, Nick probably would have been killed off off-screen for real a few years down the line. And then people would be moaning in exactly the same way they are right now. Not much logic there, really. |
Massive thanks to NickM for this wonderful signature! ![]()

Gotta say I'm really surprised and confused by the outcry to this. Nick's death has been foreshadowed for a while. The fact that his return began with a fake death firstly, the fact that he's calling himself Reg Cox who died in the very first episode and the fact that we were told this was the 'Nick story to end all Nick stories'. The signs have been pointing to Nick's death at the 30th anniversary for a long time if you ask me. I always thought the story would end this way. Of course, Dot's not the killer. As sensational as DTC can be, he would never go that far and like others have said, June Brown would never go for it. I think the murderer is between two people: Ronnie and Charlie. Both have it within their character to do it and the way the story is going, you can easily see why both would go that far at some stage. My money at the moment is on Ronnie. She started down a dark road when she killed Carl and I don't think there's any coming back from that. She needs her comeuppance but I think she also needs to become a lot more darker before it happens. DTC said she would become a proper soap villian... killing Nick and letting everyone's favourite soap legend, Dot, take the fall accomplishes that if you ask me. We needed a big story after 'Who killed Lucy?' and this is it. Perhaps it didn't have to be another murder story but this all just fits perfectly into place so it works for me. Sounds like brilliant high drama, material June Brown is worthy of and actually appropriate for the 30th anniversary of the show so I say bring it on. |

Oh that's right! I had actually forgotten he had called himself Reg Cox. Poor choice of a name because it looks like he really will be Reg Cox very soon indeed. I have to admit looking back now they have planned this story amazingly with so much foreshadowing to the point where I'm actually surprised it went under the radar.

OMG. Whether it's Dot or not whoever does it.. Nasty Nick was going to get his comeuppance at some point and a SL like this will rightly put a legend like June Brown at the forefront during EE's big celebrations! |
