I'm sure she had a child in Pakistan which she left outside a hospital or somewhere, hence her newspaper article (of when he/she was found safely.) Not sure how her apparent wealth fits into it though, as it seems she's never had a graduate job as yet. I said on one of the episode threads that I was surprised she hadn't made a comment about Stacey, seeing as she had a child outside of marriage. Shabnam seems to disapprove of everything else, so I'm thinking she couldn't say anything because it would make her a hypocrite. Edit: Just read that the secret comes out while they are babysitting Kat's kids. Convenient much? It's certainly doing Kat no favours as a character to be palming them off on Stacey so much lately. If she's working, Alfie should be looking after them. Edited by Kim, 20 Jan 2015, 14:36.

If it's a secret kid I'll be disappointed that they couldn't come up with something more original. And that doesn't explain the money unless she sold it. |

Why is she so keen to stay at the Minute Mart? I thought she was qualified for more professional things, and only stayed to help Denise out? Also, I thought Patrick and Yolande owned the MM, but gave it to Denise after they lost the B&B in the fire, or whatever it was. If that is so, and its a franchise, then even though Denise took the boose, it would have been hers to take anyway. Why they are going round checking stock, I have no idea. They should only be concerned with things they have control over, presentation standards, correct specials, store layout, etc. The financials would not really be any of their business unless they had financed some of it.

If it's to do with a baby maybe Shabnam acted as a surrogate to some wealthy family? |

I was wondering this too, or whether it's a bit darker than that - that Shabnam fell pregnant and to spare any shame in a strict Muslim community, offered her baby to a wealthy couple looking to circumvent adoption laws by buying a baby and passing it off as their own. The newspaper clipping then being a 'birth announcement' by the couple and perhaps the only photo she has. Shabnam's comment to Stacey that she thought being a single Mum was brave started me thinking this way - it would definitely be a brave thing to do to be an unwed mother in Pakistan. She also mentioned she took up running to 'lose weight' - what happened in Pakistan that made her put on so much weight she needed to run for an hour a day? Pregnancy can do that. Finally, Stacey commented that Shabnam now wears the hijab, which she didn't do previously (hell, even Zainab didn't cover apart from on special occasions). Shabnam came back much more devout than when she left - I wonder if this is her way of 'atoning' for a 'sin'. She was very harsh with Masood and Tamwar's lack of devotion (or so she perceived) and on about them not getting to heaven, I wonder if she was projecting her own supposed moral infractions and hoping that by becoming more devout she could 'save' herself? |

Now that we know, it doesn't seem as big as I thought it would be. Perhaps there's quite a lot more to this story than we've been told? |
