The mission to undo absolutely everything that changed between 2011 and 2013 continues.

I'm quite shocked that they're closing the Minute Mart. Where are people going to shop now?

I wouldn't mind them demolishing both the Minute Mart and the launderette (sorry Dot) to make way for a larger, more up-to-date Tesco Express type supermarket.

That way it would be a bit more realistic that two or more people work there at the same time: a larger shop with three tills could offer employment to at least four or five characters.

The only thing is, would there be a supermarket in the middle of a square? The laundrette is unbelievable though, laundrettes these days are few and far between, especially manned laundrettes. Unmanned ones are much more common.

It's Bridge Street, so not actually on the Square... ;)

And I don't know how it is in the UK, but over here these 'medium sized' supermarkets are all the rage, and they pop up everywhere, and many people prefer them over the larger stores one usually finds on the outskirts of city centres. I know I do! :P

As for the launderette, I have never seen a manned one in my life... all we have over here are unmanned self-service places, and even they are becoming scarce (there's one just around the corner from where I live, but I hardly ever see anyone use it). Even in EastEnders we haven't seen the launderette in ages... I think the 30th anniversary is a good opportunity to call time on that piece of the set.

We have minuet marts, cost-cutters, spa, one stops, costa all over London so I don't see how it was unrealistic. Laundrettes are still used, living in South East London I can think of five that are within driving distance from my house.

The only thing unrealistic is the Masoods with hardly a penny to their name will be able to set up and get a restaurant of that size in that location going on £10k. We know they have been refused many loans in the past and that wouldn't get them very far but then again maths isn't EEs strong point.
Your approval is neither desired nor required.

Julia Smith "We decided to go for a realistic, fairly outspoken type of drama which could encompass stories about homosexuality, rape, unemployment, racial prejudice, etc., in a believable context. Above all, we wanted realism".

Why would the producers want to reopen the Argee Bhajee when they don't even use the restaurant they've got? That makes no sense. Unless Ian is going to lose Beale's which frankly wouldn't be a big loss.

When I heard the Minute Mart was closing, my first thought was Shabnam could buy it and run it as an independent shop rather than part of the chain.

A convenience store on the Square (or outer Square, if you like), is quite believable. Even the smaller supermarkets, as described above.
I dont know why Shabnam is worried if they close it, she is qualified to work in a Chemists, or something a bit higher than minimum wage. Why doesnt she?

Oh yeah, this is EE and no one is allowed to do that. So instead, they wait for the obligatory windfall to come their way, in this case, it will be that money that Shabnam has, or Kush will have some.

One thing you can say about Ian Beale, at least he has made his money himself (OK, Laura did give him a bit of a hand at one stage), and legitimately.
Just livin' in perfect New Zealand!

Professor - I take your point but I'm not sure about the "legitimate" part. Ian stole Derek's money box which led to the opening of Beale's and Carl White coming after Ian. He also tricked Lucy into giving back the businesses she saved when he went a little psycho a couple of years ago. He's an icon but he's still a weasel... :X

After tonight Masood is clearly interested, but honestly I'd prefer the Masoods try something new. Buy the lot, but open something else other than a restaurant again.

I want to see the Bookies re-opened. How longs it been since it was last used? I know Carol was in there when Billy died but can't recall it since.

I think we last saw it when Glenda and Carol worked there. Stick Alfie in there with Carol and maybe Billy and you've got a nice little working unit.

Alfie and Carol working in the bookies could be great (coincidentally, Carol was working there and Alfie was there as a punter that time Bianca called to say Billie had died - can't recall if we saw much of the bookies after that) - but I'd really like Billy to keep working for the Cokers. It's the first decent job he's had in years, and he must be doing something right for them to keep employing him.
