Today is a year to the day that Stacey made her return to EastEnders, when Kat spotted her on the bus. In that time she has done so much whilst also doing so little, she's been on the run from murder, confessed, had her sentence overturned, discovered the secret's of Alfie, Linda and Shabnam all whilst harbouring a secret of her own - the key. When Stacey returned it's fair to say that opinion was split, there were those (including myself) who were happy to see Lacey Turner back where she belongs, and then there were others who thought that her return was unnecessary and the show was about to become the Stacey show. Now a year has passed, what are your thoughts on her return? Are you glad to see her back? Has your opinion changed on her character? |

It's great having Stacey Slater back. I missed her and Lacey Turner a lot. Stacey is such a unpredictable, exciting, interesting and watchable character. She's marmite, but I love that fierce temper of hers and also her gentle side. Stacey made a lot of mistakes, but has come back a more mature character and for now is settling back in and establishing new connections before it's her time to be back at the centre of drama again! I'm just glad the whole Archie saga was dealt with and the character could move on, plus we have saw Stacey being the confidante to people who've shared their secrets with her and DTC is still teasing us with Stacey's own secret... THE KEY! I hope they reference Stacey's Bipolar again soon and I would love to see Jean back too. Welcome back Stacey Slater (NOT BRANNING). Edited by Slater11, 7 Feb 2015, 14:23.

I think Mrs Peel hit the nail on the head when she said Stacey has the potential to be the new Pat. I adore how mature she is now and I'm loving everyone confiding their secrets in her. Can't wait til she gets her own storyline, hopefully this time next year she will be Stacey Fowler and we'll know what that key is for!
Change the record love. |

Stacey's return storyline was a mess and had that momentum continued we'd have had another iconic character ruination on our hands. She's come on leaps and bounds since September and I adore her currently, Lacey is immensely watchable and her friendships with Shabnam and Kush are real highlights for me. All we need now is for Stacey to set her sights on Martin Fowler in order to cement her position as a matriarchal figure on the Square. |

I agree with Shamelessness, I personally find the whole Stacey Slater Not Branning thing more annoying than people calling her Stacey Branning. |

I still have the view that there was no need for her to return, she was a great character in her first stint, from mid 2005 until 2009 she was fantastic, then 2010 came and she became a murderer and everything went to hell. Anyway, I loathed her return, it was a complete farce every part of it. It made me hate; Kat and Max. Kat who had returned to being one of my all time favorites in 2013 was absolutely awful, Max who was being more of a family orientated man instead of chasing women was a great new direction for him, however Stacey's return made him a complete prat and sacrificing his niece was awful. IMO, its DTC biggest fault, I understand he wanted to bring her back but it was just so badly written and farcical I was annoyed at it. However since her return again in September shes really improved, mostly down to her friendship with Shabnam, although hard to believe that Shabnam is OK with Stacey taking the piss out of her brother on a regular basis. Also keep up this Kush, Shabnam and Stacey friendship, bring Martin into it and it will be a great group. Yeah so overall, her actual return was awful but since September/October she has really improved and I hope she remains a supporting character for just a bit longer though. Stacey's been a Branning for much longer than she was a Slater on the show. |

I think Stacey was the only character who came out of her return storyline with a shed of credibility. She was the only one who cared about Alice, despite Kat having lived with her and Max being related to her both where willing to throw her to the sharks so Stacey could return. Her initial return was very dragged out, and there was no need for the three duff duffs before she even spoke a word. |

Only Stacey could steer that ship around so monumentally from the mess that she arrived back in in February to the absolute joy to behold that she is right now. We should have known then that if anyone was going to flip it in her favour, it would be Lacey Turner. I honestly don't think I'm imagining it when I say that everything seriously seems to move up a notch when she appears on screen and every one of her scenes transforms into a small nugget of gold. I'm convinced that she has an actual glow around her. This isn't senseless stanning by the way, but genuine observations that I've actually had. And the recurring joke of her finding out everyone else's secrets is my absolute favourite thing at the moment. That, and the fact that she feels like an unexploded bomb ready to go off - I can't wait for her own story now. |

I'm liking Stacey so far but she needs a big storyline. Stacey is a Branning because she married her true love, Bradley. |

Stacey's big storyline will come once the anniversary has finished. I'm sure of that. |

Not. Stacey's transformation began as soon as she owned responsibility for Archie's killing and turned down any sort of relationship with slimey Max. I never liked Stacey before. I'm loving her now. Just move her away from Kat, because Kat brings her down. We've had Stacey Slater, endured Stacey Branning. I'm ready now for Stacey Fowler. I kinda like the ring of that. |

There's no denying that Stacey's return story was a mess but I blame the events of 2010 rather than 2014 for that. The minute Stacey took responsibility for what she did, she became a completely different character. Since then, she's been warm, feisty, non-judgmental and a shoulder to cry on for many residents. I did have concerns when they announced her return - she was taken to the brink in her last stint and I really didn't know where else they could take her. But, by building up new links on the Square, focusing on her child rather than men and being a proper friend, Stacey has possibly the most potential to go on and become a future matriach. I hope that any future stories for her are real and remain rooted in this new, mature Stacey we've got. There aren't many returns that actually work in terms of moving a character forward. Stacey's return is one of the best examples of realistic character progression we've seen in a long time, which is a miracle after the mess Santer and Kirkwood made of her. |

I agree, Stacey Fowler does have a ring to it. Now, let's hope Martin puts a ring on it! Kat and Stacey on the market are the worst. Stacey doesn't need to go back to being a bullying chav, but when she's with Kat this is what she becomes. It's a shame, because Stacey seems to shine with everyone apart from her own family. |

Stacey Fowler <3 There really was never going to be a good return storyline for Stacey. I don't think any other character got an exit that really shoved them into such a corner as Stacey did. She came back, she owned up, she was willing to serve her punishment until she saw how much her daughter needed her. With the mess she was left in in 2010, she was taken right back in the best way she could. I've absolutely fallen for this new Stacey Branning we've got. The bearer of secrets, the single mother, the friend, the shoulder to cry on. She's an absolute delight to watch. Lights up the screen. This clear and fine character development she has gotten has really established her as a real icon in the making. Easily one of the best returns the show has ever orchestrated. As for the Branning vs Slater argument, it's a name. She is a Branning, because her husband was a Branning and she changed it. Not really important at all. |
| "I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver | |

I despised her return storyline. It was a complete an utter mess and completely ruined Janine's previously brilliant exit storyline. Although blood is thicker than water, I hated how Kat was prepared to have Alice sent down for killing Michael. My frustration over Janine's poor exit storyline began turning into resentment of Stacey- until she owned up to killing Archie. This, quite frankly, was one of the best things the character has ever done. Since prison, as others have already echoed, she has gone from strength to strength and is now an utter joy to watch. I dislike that her bipolar is never even mentioned, but nonetheless Stacey is now one of my favourite characters in the show- something I never thought I'd say when I sighed in despair at news of her return. Looking back, I think the writers did the best they could with the sheer mess they had to sort out. I just hope Dom has taken note when choosing Lucy's killer. May 2015 be the year of Queen Stacey. |

Her initial return was a mess and I worried how they would turn it around. A lot of the return story was pointless she seemed rather happy, but Kat was dragging her back to Walford, back to fa've Janine etc Once all that was done and she owned up to Archies murder, then she became a new Stacey. And I adore this Stacey. |

I also agree that her initial return was a mess, but it has actually made Stacey the great character (2.0) she is now. If she hadn't have confessed, I doubt us viewers would have welcomed her back as warmly. The grown up Stacey has been written extremely well. However, it would have been interesting to see her come back at a different time, when so many characters that she interacted with or at least knew of (Kat, Alfie, Mo, Dean, Shabnam) weren't in the show. How would she have coped then? |

I was fed up of her at the end of her last stint but full credit to TPTB they've really turned her character round. We've still got the mystery of the key as well. |
