I am no Shirley fan but I do like Henry. As it was due in court nobody could judge before as it was risky libel etc. I did say to someone on here I was certain she wouldnt be found guilty. Hopefully she can move past this. Must be a relief for TPTB so close to the live. Odd that in a magistrates trial with there was people who weren't witnesses speaking for her? I thought that only happened if someone is found guilty and the defence use them for mitigating purposes.
Now the trial is over I will say I wasn't impressed her lawyer didn't get her case moved to a different date which you can do usually. I think for Linda Henry's sake they should have. So close the live you think her defence would have requested a different date.

Julia Smith "We decided to go for a realistic, fairly outspoken type of drama which could encompass stories about homosexuality, rape, unemployment, racial prejudice, etc., in a believable context. Above all, we wanted realism".

18 years ago I was heavily pregnant and in the car park of Sainsburys near Dog Kennel Hill. I got out of the car and the silly shopping list I had blew out of my hand. A woman standing nearby not only ran after it, and retrieved it, she also insisted on getting me a trolley and asked if I needed any help with shopping. I mention this because I am also mixed race, a bit 'foreign looking' I suppose. The woman was Linda Henry, who I recognised as an actress, although I never watched 'Bad Girls' at the time. I never forgot this act of kindness, possibly because I was raging with hormonal emotion and the slightest thing would make me weepy. Anyway, I am glad she has been cleared; Shirley may be vile but she is played by a very kind human being.

What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it Mrs B.

Glad she was cleared. What a horrible accusation it was.
"I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver

Well it doesn't to me. It was a very fair trial by the looks of it: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/eastenders-lisa-henry-trial-live-5144658

The idea that she said "Do you know who I am? I'm Shirley!" is quite laughable.

I read about it but found the whole thing sounding very strange.

How does it smack of a cover up? Or are you trying to be controversial just to gain some attention? Both Dominic and Diane Parish (who is black by the way) AND her family gave her a reference and the court also made that decision based on her previous good character. The only way for them to cover it up would be to bribe and corrupt the legal system, which in turn is illegal anyway. I doubt Diane Parish would help to cover something up which directly offends herself.

I thought the same. I know if you're on trial the jury can't be told about previous convictions in case it influences them, I thought character witnesses would be the same.

I'm glad she got found not guilty, I thought that would be the case.

Reading the live updates, you're left to wonder how and why this case ever made it to court. The accuser had no witness, other than her colleague, and he didn't even hear what, if anything, was said. He had her word for that of what she accused Linda Henry.

I agree with the defence summarising. This is someone who confused the person with the character the actress played. Someone needs a reality check, and it isn't Linda Henry.

The whole defence just didn't ring quite true to me.

So glad that she was cleared. I may not like her character, but the actress does not seem to be the type to hurl racial obscenities at someone.

Indeed, defence lawyers and judges are notorious for covering up racial hate crimes to ensure that their enjoyment of EastEnders isn't tampered with.

What a bizarre conspiracy theory. Linda has been found not guilty because the evidence against her was hopeless. As Mrs Peel says, given how weak the evidence is, it's a wonder this made it to the courtroom in the first place.
