What is the significance of Ben's hearing aid?

Apart from the far fetched notion that some signal interference allows him to hear something he shouldn't this week (more common than you think with hearing aids  ) I'm stumped.

I think they just showed the new "invisible" one so people don't moan about continuity when they see him without a hearing aid.

True, It just occurred to me that Keeble could have had someone intercept it and bug it. She's due to be in Eastender's after the flashback episode, but we don't know if it's Lucy or Nick related. She's a dirty cop and isn't above it, and to top it off that she despises the Mitchells.
It could be that or maybe theirs nothing wrong with it at the moment but foreshadows a future storyline, for example Keeble might show up finally with the dirt on Ben and Jays attempted robbery. She already knows that Ben is not admitting to some involvement with Lucy, and with the threat of jail hanging over Ben's head she could blackmail him to wear a bug in it and get a confession from the actual killer.
However it's possible that it has no relevance, and a lot of fans have complained about the continuity of Ben's character since Harry Reid entered. Just thought it was curious.
