Possibly because Lorna hasn't other work projects to pursue, plus she hasn't had the intense storylines that Jake has over nine years.
Only joking, don't panic.

I really think that Abi is going to remain integrated with the Mitchells even after Ben "shaves his beard", if you will. I think she'll go mental at first but will end up sympathising with him.

We'd all best get ourselves buckled in for the Carter/Sonia takeover in the first quarter of 2016. Max, Kat & Alfie all on extended breaks and Roxy, Ian & Phil all on panto breaks.
I'm ready for Abi domination to be honest.

Dark Abi takes on the Mitchells and the Beales. I'm game.
"I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver

How can this not be a good thing?

Superbitch Max was spectacular viewing and really increased interest for the character (even if Phil inevitably got one up on him). I'd much rather him leave now where his presence will be missed and a return anticipated than midway through one of Max's favoured love triangle stories, where people would be less excited about a prospect of a return.

I always thought that Max should have been Lucy's killer and that he also smothered Emma with a pillow at the hospital to keep her quiet.

Don't drop the soap in prison, Max.

Then again he could be on the run and Kat and Alfie run into him in Ireland.

Seeing as Abi's relationship with Ben is about to implode, I wonder where this will leave her...
With Auntie Carol.

I think Carol can survive without Max. She certainly seems to be gradually taking on a more matriarchal role and has integrated with various characters more than I've seen her done before. Billie's death and her cancer seem to have moved her out of the bitter, scorned woman phase. She just needs to find her place, whether that be by giving her a man, a solid friend or a more solid job. If she's got something that makes her a bit more of a fixture, she'll be fine.

What worries me is that, now she's had her big storyline, she'll just be left to coast with the occasional cancer wobble. Lindsey is far too good for that. DTC obviously rates her so he needs to do something to cement her place in the Square.

Yes, it will be interesting to see in what direction, if any, the storyliners take Carol, assuming Lindsey Coulson is staying on. A new love interest would be an obvious route, though hardly original.

It's interesting to think that only a few years ago, the programme was getting a lot of flak for being overrun with Brannings and Branning satellites. Funny how things work out.

I think poor Ben is going to find out all about dark and dominating Abi when she clicks on to how much he enjoys kisses and intimate cuddles with Paul Coker :D

I for one can't wait!

Lucy's blood dripped onto Max for a reason...

This could be exciting for Carol. For the first time she won't have a brood and will have to stand on her own two feet.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Max will be departing around the same time that the Gavin & Kathy show will commence. That one will be an absolute monster of a storyline and Max simply wouldn't have fit into it or been given satisfactory screen time while it will be going on.

I believe that the press release claiming that Jake has already signed a new contract is nonsense. That isn't how it works. I've asked around, including my agent friend in London, and that isn't how it works.

It was June last year when Lindsey Coulson's contract renewal was announced. Hopefully we'll be hearing similar news soonish.

Given that Jake himself has said on Twitter he will be back and has a signed contract for next year I think you are way off base personally!

When I left Les Miserables I was asked back at the time of leaving and agreed a new contract for 9 months down the line, so it happens.

I'm sure your agent friend is an expert on EastEnders contracts, however, out of a BBC press release and your speculation, I know which one I believe is nonsense.

In one way i'm gutted because Jake is such a great Actor and Max is a brilliant character when they give him the right characterisation and storylines to work with and he'll be missed. On the other i'm pleased he has the chance to do his own thing for a bit before coming back!

Even though Jake is returning once his year break is finished.. I hope it gives EE the ammunition to create another strong male character!
