38th 38: HARRY REID Average: 5.14 ![]() Highest Score: 7 (Gangstress, Sey, Cam, TellyAddict, weewoman) Lowest Score: 3 (Lennon, Zachary, McFudd) Character Average: 4.76 Character Result: 36th Most people seem to think that Reid is the best Ben yet, and it's hard not to agree. He hasn't had a stand out moment yet but I think he's improved a lot since the turn of the year. Initially, I found his acting cold and emotionless, as if he was just reading off an auto cue, but he's picked up a lot recently. I love his scenes with Lorna Fitzgerald, they're good together. As *Betty* points out, Kathy returning will be the first big test of Harry Reid. TaintedRose: I really can't make my mind up about him. Zachary: He makes me cringe. Mrs Peel: Best Ben by far Jin: Improving Mr. Right: It speaks volumes that Harry’s the strongest actor to play Ben but still only gets a 5. I do like the character though. MrSunshine: Has shown nothing spectacular as of yet. See You Slater: He is very hit and miss. He can go from being good to being appalling in the space of one scene. Mitchells 42: Still a lot of room for improvement, he's lucky Charlie Jones was so terrible. Katie: I wasn't sure about him at first and I can't help comparing him to Joshua Pascoe who I thought was very good, but I think he's improved a bit recently. Blades' Receptionist: I'm really looking forward to seeing how Harry plays Ben's reaction to Kathy returning, but he's not been on my radar. He's OK so far. Gangstress: The best Ben by far. *Betty*: Kathy's return will be make or break for this Ben. Cam: Not as weak as many on here seem to think. Best Ben so far. 37th 37: ANNETTE BADLAND Average: 5.33 ![]() Highest Score: 9 (Blokeoptimistic) Lowest Score: 0 (Gangstress, See You Slater) Character Average: 4.58 Character Result: 38th Another big name to join EastEnders lately, and another one to split opinion with viewers. I find Babe so watchable and intriguing and I do think Badland portrays this very well, but clearly not everyone agrees. One thing I don't like is the accent she puts on, it's too inconsistent and a few people mention this. Badland was one actress who got a real range of scores, plenty of very high ones, and plenty of very low ones. I hope we haven't seen the last of her, I enjoy her. *Betty*: Annette has a long career and clearly relishes the twisted side of Babe. Her scenes with Cora, Stan and Sylvie have been great viewing, and you do understand why Babe is the way she is. Yet I never feel sympathy with the character, and also find her highly annoying. Mr. Right: There’s no doubt Annette is a brilliant actress – but in EastEnders? Not great. She’s not really working in the show which is a massive shame. See You Slater: She is just atrocious. I don’t care if she’s a respected actress, the toothy grin she does is disturbing and her accent is atrocious. Cam: Terrible. Trying to channel Pat but failing. Blades' Receptionist: I think she plays the creepiness well. Mrs Peel: One of my two points is for the hat. She tries to sound too much like Pat with a hiss and a giggle. weewoman: love to hate Babe, not just the writing, but very much so the acting. Shamelessness: I've enjoyed her in other shows but in EE it seems like she's doing a bad impression of Pat. Very panto at times. Gangstress: Absolutely atrocious. MrSunshine: She makes the character interesting to watch. Something that can't be said for some others. Cam: Shit. Zachary: Not that great to be honest, she is good in some scenes though. Mr James: I like how she rides that line between sweetness and darkness. Mitchells 42: Annette plays Babe very well, she succeeds in being a menacing psycho. However, I sometimes find that she's a bit too....breathy between words Jin: Accomplished but I find Babe a bit of a caricature. Great character though TaintedRose: So fabulous. She does overdo it sometimes, but I love it. Katie: One of my least favourite characters, and the acting really doesn't help my opinion of her. King Billy: Hate the character, but I think she plays her really well. 36th 36: KARL HOWMAN Average: 5.42 ![]() Highest Score: 8 (Cupcake, Blokeoptimistic, Sey) Lowest Score: 1 (Cam, Gangstress) Character Average: 4.08 Character Result: 44th I can't help but think that if I'd started this competition two weeks later, Howman would've come much higher. He's really come into his own in the last few weeks, and most people seem to be warming to Buster. Nevertheless this is still a reasonable placing for him, ahead of quite a few Carters. A couple of the comments talk about what he might do in the future - we're getting a few glimpses of it lately. I think Howman is good and works with Linda Henry superbly well. King Billy: I'm warming to him. weewoman: slowly, I start to get more interested in Buster and that is not due to the writing but to the acting. MrSunshine: Seems VERY good but haven't seen enough yet. Worthy of Linda Henry though. Zachary: I'm rather liking Buster, I didn't think I would when he first joined. Karl is a good actor, it'd be interesting to see if he can really pull something off. TaintedRose: His anger makes me laugh. Planck: Rubbish when he is being "hard" but is much better as the voice of reason. Jin: I just see the Flash bloke - perhaps a tad unfair *Betty*: I don't feel blown away or disappointed. Katie: I think he's someone who I'd rate higher in a few months time after he's had more to do. Mr. Right: Okay when he’s not trying to act ‘angry’. Mitchells 42: Dull, though it may be the character Blades' Receptionist: I like Karl's acting style and he's been good so far. Mrs Peel: Stick to selling cleaner Edited by Daniel68, 27 Jun 2015, 11:58.

I wish I could have given Karl Howman a higher score than I did. He has really come into his own recently. |

I definitely would have given Karl a higher score after the past few episodes. He's still nothing great imo, but he's improved. |

Oeh.... curious! By the way, I realised that I am scoring quite high in general, my lowest score being a 4 (just once). To me, it is one thing to judge fictional characters, but to judge actors is something else. Maybe that is hypocrite, I dunno. But I cannot slag actors (real people) off as much as I (like to) do fictional people. |

35th 35: DECLAN BENNETT Average: 5.69 ![]() Highest Score: 8 (Blades' Receptionist) Lowest Score: 2 (Jack1997) Character Average: 5.76 Character Result: 24th Seems that people have got a bit bored of him? I suppose it was a bit inevitable, he was introduced purely for the Nick storyline it seems, and now that that's finished what's left for him to do? Row with his psychopath wife? Have an affair with her sister? Having said all this, I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a Declan Bennett performance. But, I've only ever been really impressed by him once or twice - mainly in January. Some people seem to think that he's leaving soon anyway. Mitchells 42: Can be depended on to pull off what he needs to, but I've never been amazed by him Shamlessness: Natural but nothing to write home about. Blades' Receptionist: Declan shone in scenes such as the aftermath of the car crash. See You Slater: He is okay. Not the best. Mrs Peel: Used to be intriguing until Ronnie Mitchell de-balled him. Now he just looks as though he needs a bath Zachary: He is so stale sometimes, at times he is okay but most of the time he's just bland. TaintedRose: He's not bad, but he's not good either. *Betty*: Declan has potential to be good. But he is another that doesn't quite set the screen alight. Mr. Right: The actor appears to have lost all interest and is coasting a long a little at the moment. But then again, who wouldn’t if they were forced to act out a contrived love affair? King Billy: Boring. Planck: Was brilliant in January but has been pretty terrible ever since. MrSunshine: looks stoned half the time. Not intentional, I'm sure. Gangstress: His accent turns me on. 34th 34: TAMEKA EMPSON Average: 5.75 ![]() Highest Score: 9 (Katedahlia, Solar1808, Zachary) Lowest Score: 1 (Jade, Katie) Character Average: 6.85 Character Result: 12th Tameka has finished 22 places lower than her character has here, which is a disappointing result. Looking at some of the comments below, a lot of them are very similar - good at comedy but not at drama. I don't think I'd like to see Kim axed though, I'd be perfectly happy for her to be a regularly appearing character with a gentle life, married to Vincent and looking after Pearl, with a few moments of drama each year. There's plenty of characters like that in Emmerdale and Coronation Street and I think it'd suit Tameka perfectly. Wouldn't it also be nice to see Kim have a good friend? Sonia? Tina? Roxy? Stacey? Just someone outside of the family dynamic so we get to see more of her in other situations. Mrs Peel: Not funny and not good enough to be taken seriously. Zachary: Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Kim. Tameka however just isn't the best actress in the soap lol. Once again, she'd work MUCH better in a sitcom. *Betty*: Tameka is really proving her worth. Comedy and drama, Kim's finding her place and you can tell Tameka loves the show. A real character actress. TaintedRose: I’ve always loved Kim, and I think Tameka can pull off comedy or drama. Shamelessness: I'm not even a huge fan of the slapstick comedy, and she's not great at the more dramatic stuff weewoman: High and lows. She does handle the serious well, but her comedy is in my opinion either bang on, or rather off. Cam: Can do comedy, but very iffy when it comes to drama. Blades' Receptionist: I hope they continue writing more drama for Kim because she has shown recently how well she can do drama as well as comedy. Mitchells 42: Excels at comedy but wobbles with drama. Jin: Good at comedy and improving with her current material. Mr. Right: Dramatic material isn’t Tameka’s strong point. However, she excels in the comedic scenes and I do think she’s improving. Planck: She is good at the serious stuff but is better at the comedy. MrJames: It's a mixed bag for Tameka. A brilliant comedic actress, struggles with the big drama, but can actually deliver some very nice heartfelt, gentle scenes. See You Slater: She has impressed me SO much since her return. Her scenes with baby Pearl broke my heart. MrSunshine: Finally getting material she can sink her teeth into. Hey, comedy ain't easy and she's already proved she can do that. This could be her year. King Billy: Gone from being very annoying to very interesting. 33rd SAMANTHA WOMACK Average: 5.86 ![]() Highest Score: 11 (holly) 10 (Planck, MrSunshine, Gangstress, McFudd) Lowest Score: 0 (Mr. Right) Character Average: 5.76 Character Result: 24th Wow, just look at some of those comments! Womack is the only member of the cast to have received scores of 11 and 0. She really does divide opinion. If I'd have been doing these scores five years ago, Womack would've got my 11. She was my favourite character and my favourite actress. Fast forward five years, and I'm desperate for her to go. How can this be?!?! It's so frustrating because we've all seen how good she can be, during the Baby Swap and Danielle's death she was sublime, breathtaking, jaw dropping but now she's just boring and lacklustre. That proves surely that it is a lack of interest from the actress. She's been doing lots of other projects, and maybe she does prefer doing them, and doesn't have the same motivation for EastEnders any more? I don't know. I don't know what to say about her. holly: I love Samantha Womack! People have said her performances are lacklustre recently, but I still think they've been brilliant, and she always was amazing in her big storylines, some of which must have been really hard to film. Hope she doesn't leave because I think she's a huge asset to the show, however much people on WW seem to hate her! weewoman: the storylines might be good, but I am just past caring and I am really afraid the actress is not that much invested as she was before either. See You Slater: 100% overrated. I feel like the producers think she is more popular than she actually is, which is why she is their golden girl and can swan in and out when she fancies – giving half arsed performances in between each break. Mr. Right: Has forgotten how to act between 2011 and now. MrJames: I know everyone is a bit up and down with Sam at the moment, but make no mistake: she is a brilliant actress. I for one think her performances are great at the moment, but she has enough earth-shattering performances under her belt to mean that that doesn't really matter anyway. I particularly loved her scene with the psychologist after the baby swap reveal. Jin: Good but I felt her performances more in the Danielle and Archie days. Blades' Receptionist: She's brilliant. She plays Ronnie so well. TaintedRose: Going back a few years, she’d have probably been my 11. These days, it seems like she’d rather be somewhere else and it shows on screen. Mrs Peel: Most overrated and the laziest actress on the show. If she can't commit, exit stage left. MrSunshine: A character so frustrating that she's debated more than any other character on this list. Her 'bad' performances aren't actually bad but but they don't reach the levels we've since this actress achieve. The moment she found out Danielle was her daughter and called her abusive father out for lying to her is flawless. Since her return the character's been written into several corners that villainy seems the only way to go but the actress is so good that she never feels 2D and her past traumas are always with her and make her reactions extreme in extreme circumstances. Very exciting to watch. Cam: Her and Jessie are bored as fuck and it shows. Elle: I've felt that Sam Womack has lowered her game since she has returned. Mitchells 42: Has become lazy, and coasting off past glories but I wouldn't write her off *Betty*: Lazy actress, who is clearly not interested in the character or show. Has put in decent performances but I feel disappointed and let down as Ronnie should be so much more for the effort, time and respect given to the character. Always felt disconnected with the character and actress. Jade: I do prefer Darth Ronnie to Rack Ronnie but seems to have lost all passion for the show and just phones it in now Zachary: She portrays Psycho Ronnie greatly, but in normal scenes she's very stale. |

Some of the offensive comments about the looks of EE's actors - particularly Declan Bennett - are so uncalled for. And actually really vile. Is that what we've come to? Judging performances based on the way an actor looks? |

Samantha Womack is terrible; I was never a fan of her acting (even if I did like the character) during her first stint but now I feel as though she's dead behind the eyes and reciting her fish and chip order at the back of her mind whenever she's saying her lines. |
