Again, who are "We"? The only difference I see in Ben and Stacey is that Ben accidentally killed Heather and Stacey purposefully attacked Archie. Your reasoning of beauty ideals leading to unfair judgments has absolutely nothing to back it up. What have you seen that suggests people are more likely to forgive Stacey simply because she is an attractive woman? If you think that is how you are programmed to react then that's fine, but don't speak for all of us as if we don't have the capability for critical thinking and to separate the person from the action.
"We" are the human race in general. Obviously I can't speak for anyone here but scientific studies suggest that we are instinctively more likely to trust attractive people with a friendly disposition from infancy. Nobody likes to admit it being that shallow but looks and personality are a major part of how we see other people much more so than their actual actions. It's why things like racism and sexism and other forms of discrimination unfortunately exist.

Trust me if DTC goes now Eastenders won't surive anymore bad producers.
In fact the set rebuilt has vanished recently and nothing has been mentioned which makes Eastenders future on the BBC risky. I could easily see it on another channel by 2022.

But Harry Reid who plays Ben is incredibly attractive in many people's eyes

So I'm not sure if on this occasion your theory stacks up ?

"I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver

I do admit Stacey is making me dislike her at the moment but then again that's the nature of the show is it not? Not all characters are likeable all the time and we as viewers will always question thier actions, which is how it should be. Nobody is saying it's okay to treat Shabnam the way she is and I don't think we are expected to either. A lot of characters make a lot of mistakes in the show throughout thier lives and never learn from them, be it, Pat (affairs), Max (affairs), Tanya (affairs), Sharon (she cheated with her brother-in-law), Philth (old thug), Kat (affairs) etc so I'm not expecting Stacey Slater of all people to remain as a nun for the rest of her life. This little infatuation she has with Kush will most likely bite her back on the arse, it's just a matter of time before it happens.

You raise some very interesting points here. I don't think we're supposed to like or approve of Stacey at the moment. I think too many of us (using the collective pronoun generically so as not to be accused of speaking for others over whom I have no remit) were shocked at the level of infatuation she bears for Kush, as the viewers have had no previous indication that she was attracted to him.

She does, however, possess a moral compass, and Friday showed that she was conflicted over betraying Shabnam. She's as much a moral coward as Kush, but she shouldn't depend on him as much as she does, because he's let her down twice in her infatuation - firstly, by lying to Nancy that Stacey pursued him and secondly by refusing to have sex with her, remembering his commitment to Shabnam. As someone else said in another thread, Kush likes to be liked by people, and were he to stray from Shabnam or cheat and be discovered, he'd be ostracized as a pariah in Walford. As well, Stacey doesn't have any sort of emotional back-up in the event of her misbehaviour becoming public.

However, a lot of the characters you mentioned have behaved appallingly and have paid the price for that. Pat cheated on her husband with Frank, whilst he was married to her best friend; she also slept with Patrick when he was married to Yolande, simply because she could. Yolande didn't deserve that. Max certainly has behaved like the ultimate scumbag, having sex with a young woman whom he'd known as a child, amongst other things. Tanya was as bad as Max, in the end; she slept with Jack and tried to intimate to her young children that their father was dead. Her comeuppance came during Live Week, when she wanted to get together again with Max and he refused. Of course, Sharon had Sharongate. Phil cheated on Kathy with Lorna and on Sharon with Shirley. Kat? The list is endless.

I do think, however, that they are slowly building Stacey and Martin as a couple. He's the last remnant of an important original family, the first child born on the soap and the son of Pauline and Arthure. She is the last remnant of the first family of the Millennium and, arguably, the most popular member. Integrating Stacey into the Fowler/Beale fold makes sense.

By the way, Ben didn't bother to show remorse for Heather until Shirley held his head under the bathwater. The night he killed her, he was later sitting at the Mitchell dining room table, eating Indian take-away and cracking jokes about Heather's weight and eating habits, only hours after he killed her. Even now, he steers clear of Shirley and when he returned to the Square, thought that now he'd served his sentence, everything would be hunky-dory.

Nobody is forced into anything. There was no gun to her head, she is an adult and made a choice. At the end of the day Stacey used an excuse to get out of prison. That is not taking full responsibility for their actions. Using mental health condition which did not affect you at the time is actually a pretty disgusting thing to do when a great many people truly afflicted do not get the same treatment are in jail when they should be in a secure hospital. People like her reinforce that mentally ill people "get away with it" there is a huge stigma around mentally ill and crime. Most sadly are not getting the help they need and are filling up our prisons.
So I wont be told I am wrong (Sorry but who the hell has the right to tell someone that, especially someone whom I don't know online). I just see it different.
No one said you were wrong, but Stacey was extremely reluctant to use her medical condition as an escape route. It was suggested to her by Jean because Jean was finding it difficult to cope with Lily. She and Kat even manoeuvered an astounding stunt of passive-aggressive manipulation by taking Lily to the prison to visit Stacey, and still she wouldn't budge. Her rationale was that she wanted to do her time, pay for having committed the crime, come out and build a new life with her daughter.

It took Jean's attempted suicide and Kat's giving birth to twins that got Alfie to convince her to use bi-polar as a means of appeal. Of course, in a real situation, such an appeal would take months, but this is soap, and TPTB had backed themselves into a corner with the character, played by a popular actress who wanted to and requested to return to the programme, but who had already committed to another BBC project.

Having her willingly confess to Archie's murder, thus clearing her husband's name, and getting sentenced to prison was a means by which the actress could fulfill other BBC obligations; it also assuaged viewers' doubts about Stacey by showing that she did, indeed, receive retribution and punishment for the crime she committed.

First time around - Stax and everything included - I hated Stacey. In fact, there was a time when she became a walking Carter Family in and of herself, the way she was shoe-horned into every storyline. Who can forget her crashing Trina's funeral?

But this time around, until this storyline, I thought they'd developed her character very well. Where the mistake was made, it was made between SANTER and KIRKWOOD. Santer, for insisting that she, and not Peggy, be Archie's killer, and Kirkwood, for allowing her character to leave the Square without atoning for killing a person.

People were as uncomfortable with that as they are with Ronnie, Dean and even Jane and Bobby, for all of these are swanning about the Square, having committed appalling crimes and showing no remorse at all.

Stacey, eventually, did show remorse for having killed Archie, confessed and actually had to be talked into using her bi-polar condition as a means of appeal. Yes, that could have taken months, but Kirkwood should have allowed her to go to prison with a five year sentence and she would have been being released last year.

For anyone saying Stacey hasn't shown remorse and taken responsibility for her crime, they are wrong.

I'm just glad Kush isn't the new Jack.
BIB: I think that's single handedly the worst case of shoehorning a character into a storyline the show has ever done. Although the Brannings during Pat's death is good competition for it.

Even though its a shadow of its former self right now, Coronation Street really know how to do funerals better than EastEnders.

And as I write this I realise the Brannings had more involvement in Pat's funeral than they did in Jim's. Jim's funeral was just meh to me.

On the subject of Stacey getting away with stuff it is odd that she not only got away with Archie's death (sort of) but also got away with lying for Chrissie Watts during Den's murder and trying to frame Tanya during the Max hit and run storyline. Although there could be reasonable explanations for those two.

I remember when Stacey came into the show I actually realised that this was a character I wanted to see. She was near my age group and had a rebellious attitude which I had at the time. I do like how she has matured as a person which is real life but that shows to me why this shoe horning and chucking any story at her is not needed.

I'm sure I'm not alone here when I say the Carters are pretty decent characters if it weren't for the shoe horning they recieve. Its the same with any character.

Why would the next producer be bad? I wasn't expecting much from DTC's vision for the show but he delivered a cracking 2014. A few flaws here and there but overall he really won me over for the most part. After the exciting Freshman year though it seems we have entered a deep Sophomore slump. The team have really failed to keep the momentum going and it seems we get one or two good weeks followed by a patchy/poor month on a loop now. The show isn't hitting the highs it's capable of at the moment, which is a shame because I know the talent is there.

Yeah hopefully the key opens a room with a mirror because OurStace definitely needs one.

Interesting. It certainly looks like Jean knows more about the key than she is letting on.

As for the dress, it looks like someone stitched lingerie on top of a normal dress. Nice figure though ;)

Now that does give me a jolt of excitement. It makes you wonder why they need to add everything else to Stacey's storylines when the key seems to be enough.

I really, really hope that Sean is returning. I know that Rob has done well for himself and good luck to him but with his ex wife having gotten together with the man who put him in prison and his sister feeling very alone right now, Sean would be a welcome addition.

However, we're probably more likely to get that drippy Ryan. A poor man's Sean, the actor a poor man's Rob Kazinsky and the character, to quote Blackadder, is wetter than a fish's wet bits.

Maybe a guest stint for Sean?
