Another thing that's weird. Shirley never being off our screens but never having anything to do with Jay anymore. |

Or Ben. She told him she'd make his life hell if he moved back to the Square in September and since then....nothing. |

Precisely. I loved their relationship. They were always the outsiders in the Mitchell family. I miss them together. |

A scene with Jamie Borthwick and Lacey Turner would make my day any day of the week. Have Jay and Stacey ever interacted? |

Same, though I do like the scenes we've had of Sharon and Jay this year. Jay's going to be the only one left with no real family in a few months, which is why I think that we'll have Gavin taking Jay under his wing and manipulating him into doing his bidding. |

The characters of Jay, Lucy and Lola are proof producers have their subjective favorites and don't always do the best by the show. |

Getting rid of the one person he could make a life with. Could return to Billy's pledge to look out for him. Lola and Jay with Billy would've been a nice little family. Carol or Denise for Billy's new partner. Lovely stuff. A modest group of characters with huge amounts of talent. Nope. Not interested. Jamie Borthwick must have some good hobbies to keep him occupied for him to stick with the show. Mind you for regular money it makes sense to stick with the show. |

I think the plan is for Jay and Abi to eventually reunite though. |

Why couldn't they have kept Lola and just build an ordinary family set-up with her, Jay and Lexi? Get them into a flat. A young family just battling through life and all the trouble it brings. That would have been perfect. |

That's what I'm afraid of. It'd be lazy and uninspired not to mention the fact that she's just no longer the same girl. Jay's been entwined with Ben and Abi long enough. He needs his own life away from them.
Don't be ridiculous. An ordinary young couple living on their own? We can't have those in Eastenders. Everybody has to live in with their parents. No exceptions. Edited by The Local Butcher, 5 Jul 2015, 21:55.

I think Lola's going to die. I just can't see where else she'd go and they'll surely want to keep Kathy's granddaughter in the show now that she has returned. If Lola dies, Ben will be left to raise Lexi and it will open up a whole lot storyline wise. Can see Jay and Billy uniting against Phil/Ben/Kathy. |

I think this would be a brilliant storyline in the near future for Jay. Testicular cancer is more common in younger men which I don't think a lot of people know, I have had three family member who are survivors and they were all under the age of 21 when diagnosed. Unfortunately testicular cancer suffers often have to have the testicle removed which is the most traumatic part of having it. What if Jay was bravely dealing with this all by himself while the Mitchells are busy with the return of Kathy and Gavin? |

I think that Jay's kind of slipped into the role that was previously occupied by Darren - great young male character who we've seen grow up on the show, lots of potential there, occasionally given a moment to shine, but sadly nobody seems to want to give him anything beyond a moment. The Heather story should really have been the one that propelled him into the spotlight but for whatever reason it never happened. I always think of how brilliant and inspired it was to pair Darren with Max - it would be nice to see Jay break away from the Mitchell fold for a while and get something similar to that. I suppose they tried with Dexter but then we had the horrific scenario of Jay spending 99% of the time playing second fiddle to a character he was so much better than. It would be nice if they remembered his relationship with Billy - they hardly ever share any scenes these days and with Lola on her way out we need someone to step in and fight Billy's corner while everyone continues to paint him as the loser of the Square. I just hope that the big stuff he has with Lola isn't involving an as-yet-unannounced exit. |

Look what they are doing with Lee, what was tried with Joey and attempted with Tyler if Kirkwood, Newman or Santer put half that effort with young Borthwicks character Jay would be outright best young character since Stacy and they would not of had to of brought back the character of Stacy back so soon. |

I get that feeling as well, and I'm not against the idea. It would give Perry and Jamie some great material to work with, as well as keeping Lexi (legacy baby) in the show. I'd be interested to see Ben struggling as a dad as an extra layer of his love triangle/coming back out of the closet storyline. And hopefully they could persuade the brilliant Cathy Murphy to return for the funeral. |

And in the fact that everyone Jay has ever loved dies and well....I think it's inevitable. |

I agree with this. Jay knows he's living on borrowed time with the Mitchells. As soon as Phil opened his arms to him, Jay was off to change his surname to Mitchell. I still remember the scene with Shirley around the Mitchell kitchen table where she reminded him that both he and she were in Phil's house at Phil's pleasure. He could wake up with a sore head and clear them both out. In the aftermath of Heather's murder, somewhere along the line, Jay Mitchell became Jay Brown again. I felt that Jamie Lomas would have been put to better use as one of Jase Dyer's brothers shouing up. Jay would have had a real family focal point. As things stand now, he's just living in Phil's house and working for Phil. He's bonded with Sharon, and I think that's because she realises that he, like she, is essentially isolated and without family. That's about to change. |

I seriously feel that if Jay had been female then he would be treated as a much bigger star than how he is being treated now. There is a tendency in EastEnders to only really use a young male character as a criminal (Ben, Billie, young Martin), a heart throb (Peter Beale, Joey Branning) or for comedy (Fatboy, Bobby Beale). Jay has been on our screens almost a decade and has drifted from family unit to family unit. He started off with the Fowlers technically (His grandad Bert was Joe Macer's cellmate), then his own unit with his grandad and then dad, followed by Billy, followed by the current Mitchells although he did integrate himself into Max's household for a while due to his relationship with Abi. Its about time he was given his own limelight instead of either waiting for him to hit his 30's or just allowing viewers to accept him as "someone thats there". |
