Carter Quietness

The point was raised in the most recent spoiler thread that the recent quietness of the Carters seems to coincide with when the backlash against them first started. Do you think that perhaps DTC et al have listened to the viewers and consciously reduced the amount of screen time the Carters are getting as a result? By the Carters, I mean Mick and Linda, although if this is the case then I'd have preferred a break from Shirley and Dean rather than Mick and Linda.

They definitely seem to have calmed them down a little bit, and when we do see the Carters it's the likeable Carters we had for their first few months. They've had a much needed break, so I don't find myself rolling my eyes every time they appear on screen like I did before.

I know people seem to think the core Carter clans quietness is mainly down to backlash but I don't believe it is the main reason. 2014 was about establishing the family so you'd expect heavy usage and coupled with the fact Timothy West only been around for a limited contract it meant the Carters had to be full on for last year. So I suspect there was always a plan to lessen the presence the family had in 2015.

Agree with See You Slater. They are having a much needed break. It's good that the "background Carter's" are getting storylines whilst the main ones are appearing once or twice a week with only a couple of lines.

I go back and forth that either they listened to the backlash OR from the beginning it was all set up for them to be featured so much and then cut back like this. We were supposed to really " get them " maybe and then EE could go back business as usual.
The problem was though that Nancy and Lee were always on the side. I never got invested in them the way I wanted and Nancy only now. Although I always liked her.
It has gone too far though. We don't see them at all and now it's like a treat. I don't know... I just feel disconnected.

Quite possibly. For 16 months they were at the forefront of the show and had very little time off screen.

Who's to say the quietness is gone completely?

Yes they have been quiet for nearly two months now, but I'm glad to see the recent resurgence of Nancy and Lee again. Dean needs to go to make the Carter's feel properly free again.

It is a wise move to focus on less prominent family members such as Nancy and Lee being developed as individual characters in a context/relationship outside of the Carter clan. Too bad we are still stuck with that awful Dean and Shirley dynamic. Hope it gets resolved soon.

We do need to bear in mind we have the Margate episode coming soon (possibly Last week of July) and yes let's hope Dean gets his comeuppance soon and goes.

I think Dean might be here for the rest of the year.

By then he and his "mother " are going to New South Wales and never to return or being seen ever again .Posted Image

Shame it didn't happen when I was actually watching the show! 2015 hasn't seemed planned out at all and I can't see anything happening at the minute to make me want to start watching again.

No, it is the summer which traditionally the A-listers get a break ready to go full frontal once more in the autumn.
