Abi Branning; Potential?

Let's talk about Abi Branning for a second.

I think Lorna has potential, real potential and I think it's about time Abi got her own story line, quite a big one at that. Maybe nothing absolutely major but Lorna has been on the show for almost 10 years now and is one of the only child actors to never have been replaced, I can honestly say no matter whether you like Abi as a character or not she deserves something. Self harm? Eating disorder? These are both something Lorna could tackle and nail. Especially considering she's best when she's Dark!Abi.

What do you guys think?

I think there's a lot of potential there. I've always liked Abi as a character and Lorna's proved she's a capable actress, IMO. So I would love for her to get a storyline of her own. The two you mentioned would be good, especially once the sfuff with Ben blows up in her face and Max has left.

She's now overtaken Jo Joyner in appearances so behind Max and Jim, she's the third highest featuring Branning.

Scrap that, Lauren is. But Abi will over take her shortly due to JJ's maternity.

She's great and always had potential, they have finally realised it now by letting Abi have more screentime and I think JJ being pregnant and Lauren having to go for a while has been the making of Abi's character, she's been a revelation and I've always preferred Abi. Lorna is a talented young Actress and there is more to come, she's been in the show for quite a while, but the future is certainly exciting..

Am I the only one who thinks she's a deluded, precocious, rude little twit? I'm not getting all this praise for her recently. I certainly won't forget her callous attitude to killing poor Tramp.

Count me in. We may be in the minority, but to me, she isn't acting any differently than when she was 10 or 12 years old, except that her bitchy, spoiled side has come to the fore. I started going off her big style when she used to march around, issuing orders to Jay to pay this for her or to give her money for that, the lowest point of which came when she ordered him to organise a holiday for them or else she'd withold sexual favours.

I used to prefer her to Lauren, but the way she speaks to Max lately, she deserves a smack. I was surprised Carol let her get away with dressing Max down as a loser last week, in public. Max may not be the best parent in the world. but he is her only father. She's so shallow that she can be bought - bought - into the Mitchell fold with a car.

I'll never forgive her for killing poor Tramp. I detest Lauren, but I'd rather see her back on the Square than pointless Abi. Lauren is now linked to the Beales and has a Beale legacy baby. When Abi wises up about Ben and Paul, she'll have no one, bar Cora, who's barely sober and about whom no one knows that she's even about the Square.

Abi is great. Since Lauren left she has gone from strength to strength which was showcased in Live week. Maybe Max leaving could also benefit her character?

There is potential there, she just needs some decent writing.

Abi betraying Max for Ben is interesting but seems false. Abi was always the daddy's girl. I get that she's moved on from that but a betrayal of that extent seems unrealistic.

Nope.

Lorna Fitzgerald is an awful actress, more stage-school than Mimi Keene with absolutely no variation or flexibility in her performances.

Abi is an awful character and I also think Lauren is better. This whole "Dark Abi" thing hasn't made a lot of sense actually, it was more like they were stuck because people still thought of her has a child so they had to just wing another type of character at us.

"Dark Abi" is just Abi acting like a spoiled little madam.

Lorna IMO is not an awful actress she was good in these scenes:

I agree. Abi was the quintessential Daddy's Girl. She always appeared to be Max's favourite and she doted on him. As she grew older she became increasingly possessive of his attention and seemed to resent any other woman he so much as looked at including Lauren. Based on how the character was presented before she should have been in her element once Lauren left for New Zealand, she seemed to crave the idea of having Max all to herself. Instead without the competition for his affections she seems to have lost all interest him and is openly rude and dismissive to his face. It's very peculiar and I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense.

I prefer her with the Mitchell's rather then with max. Her scenes with Sharon have always been good. And I loved her scene with Phil yesterday. I feel sorry for her though she's completely convinced herself that she's in love with Ben and he's in love with her. I want her to stay with the Mitchell's for now but doubt her 'relationship' with Ben is going to end well!
