Looks like we are heading back into mediocrity-

Vincent just doesn't work.
"I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver

Snore. I feared we'd return to the King Phil shit at some point.

Like a small, balding, overweight man on the wrong side of middle aged would be any match for a tall, well built, muscular young man like Vincent. Don't make me laugh.

Didn't Vincent already prove he was physically more capable than Phil in a fight? This is just odd and sounds like filler.

Phil is smart, he quickly got the car lot back so I'm surprised he's resorting to violence with Vincent. Really don't like when they write Phil as thuggish when he's more than that.

It says he catches him off guard and when you're physically inferior thats in your favour. But just another incident to build up to the Hubbard vs Sullivan/Mitchell war.

Ah I didn't see that bit. Reminds me of when he punched Jack after he gave him info on Louise.

oh for crying out loud, can no one think of a suitable name for a business other than after family???

What has Phil got to whinge about? He gave a bar away that wasnt even his!
Sharon is the only hard-done-by person in this and I am surprised she is still with Phil.
I wouldnt stay with my husband if he just gave away our business.

they moved away from these gangsta storylines for a very good reason.....
Just livin' in perfect New Zealand!

very silly. I do wish we'd be spared this compulsory demonstration of Phil's supposed virility.

The Hubbard's could be good but so far the writing for them has been awful.

Vincent is good only when he's away from the gangster shit and away from his putrid mother. Claudette is one massive failure as a character.

I fully agree, Mrs Peel.

Here's an open letter to anyone who thinks Claudette is a "matriarch".

Lou Beale, Pauline Fowler, Pat Butcher and Peggy Mitchell are all matriarchs: strong women who went out of their way for their families and were always on hand with advice who they'd offer to all who needed it.

Claudette Hubbard, however, is a nasty piece of work who sees other people to be inferior to her, particularly in the case of Kim. Lou might not have got along with Arthur at times but it was clear they had an understanding and a love for one another, she'd hand Claudette her sorry arse in an instant.

If the show wants to build a new matriarchal figure for the show, Kathy, Carmel and Elaine would be the closet contenders. Stacey Fowler (as she'll soon be known as, no doubt about that) is going to fill that role in the years to come.

So, the people that be, if you want a matriarch; hand Ellen Thomas her P45 and given Bonnie Langford and Maria Friedman permanent contracts. And with Gillian Taylforth on the way back, you'll have a strong group of women at hand.

And on a closing note, please do not make Kathy friends with Claudette. They may be in the same age bracket but that's the only similarity.

We've just had one of the best written, best acted Phil is a Human after all scenes in years and then so quickly back to this silliness. Yawn indeed.

I've just read this post and now have a wonderful mental image of Sharon smacking Vincent. It was ultra-camp as you'd expect.
