I knew this was coming. I'll give it a go watching but will be a wreck. Thankfully I've never experienced a stillbirth but with a neonatal death and currently 31 weeks it's going to be a tough watch

I wasn't really thinking about stillbirth vs SIDS. Either way it's a very bold move to go back to dead babies after the babyswap. |

Just as long as no one is doing any swapping then I think we're safe. Someone needs to have their eyes on Ronnie at all times. Take shifts watching her. |

I suspected this was going to happen. I wonder how the press will take it. I can see them accusing Eastenders of disrespect for simply doing a baby death again. And if ratings are down the press will really start moaning for no such reason and saying how miserable it is to corrie( despite corrie having a child illness plot upcoming). How many weeks will Shabham be. Around 28 I think but i am not sure. I saw on digital spy once that Kamil was supposed to be stillborn. I wonder if that was planed by DTC and now he is doing what he intended do years ago. I o hope through it doesn't end up with Shabnhm kidnapping Stacey's baby when its born because she is grief stricken which I can possibly see happening. Edited by Forest11, 31 Jul 2015, 21:54.

I think if done properly it will be okay. It's something many people really don't think about when they find out they're pregnant. I see people on my newsfeed buying pushchairs at 10 weeks pregnant and all sorts. Baby loss is still very much a stigmatised subject for talking about. Whenever I mention my son I get shut down because people just don't want to hear about it. But it is very very common. You don't realise just how much sometimes |

What is the actual process of a stillbirth |

What do you mean by process? If the baby has passed already you are induced and give birth. You then get to spend time with your baby depending on hospital facilities. If past 24 weeks you are issued with a stillbirth certificate. Some hospitals allow you to arrange your own funeral depending on gestation. I'm assuming shabnams baby won't be born alive at any point as that isn't technically classed as a stillbirth. Sometimes babies pass from complications during labour in which the process is still the same. Most times a post mortem will need carrying out before the coroner will allow a funeral. In very exceptional circumstances you may be allowed a cesarean depending on gestation (you need to be close to term for this) but usually hospitals like you to give birth vaginally. |

I feel sorry for Shabnam but I do hope this isn't how she ends up deciding she wants the daughter she didn't want for all these years. I find it so untasteful this you can replace one child with another. No these are human beings we are talking about here. You don't trade human beings. How about grief for the very real baby she lost? That is a horrendous thing for any mother to go through. If that is how she is then she is far too selfish to be having kids. I would much prefer that not to happen. I worry about someone like her getting her anyway. She would insist she was brought up in a culture and religion she has had no tie to so far. As a religious parent myself I am with Dawkins there is no such thing as a "Christian, Jewish, Muslim etc child" they happen to have "Christian, Jewish, Muslim etc parents". My children will be given the choice to believe or not believe whatever they want. I can not see bigoted Shabnam being the same. Personally would have preferred this story for Stacey as she would have nailed it and her being tied to Martin in their nomance relationship puts me off both characters. Seeing Martin with his family and Stacey interact with Max reminded me why both characters are fantastic....just not together. I do not care if its a legacy baby the relationship is dull. Your approval is neither desired nor required. Julia Smith "We decided to go for a realistic, fairly outspoken type of drama which could encompass stories about homosexuality, rape, unemployment, racial prejudice, etc., in a believable context. Above all, we wanted realism". | |

It? If a stillbirth the baby is born not breathing. If a baby is born breathing the birth will be classed as a neonatal death and a birth and death certificate is issued. Sadly for whatever reason stillborn babies after 24 weeks aren't eligible for a birth and death certificate. Only a stillbirth certificate. While the article doesn't state definitely shabnams baby is born already passed I'd imagine that's the way it will play out. Giving birth and going through labour knowing your baby won't cry or open their eyes must be pretty soul destroying. Equally so is holding your baby as they pass away. It's a brave subject to tackle. I'd assume it's something many people are still not very educated about. Once you are 12/13 weeks pregnant you have to give birth to the baby whether you have a healthy baby or not. Sadly there is no option otherwise. |

It certainly would have been much more interesting to see shabnam have a baby. She's not particularly maternal and she never planned this pregnancy. I'm not sure what the Slater fowler baby brings to the characters except as a legacy in 14-18 years time. |

My big worry is this baby's death will be the catalyst rather than the story, Shabnam reaching out to Jade and Kush to Stacey. Linda's rape was handled very well at first but ultimately served as a plot device to drive a wedge between Shirley and Mick. I'm fearing something similar here. |

This will definitely lead to Shabnam wanting custody of Jade and I personally have no problem with that. Shabnam wanting Jade wouldn't be about replacing the baby. It'd be about realising what you've got and how precious life can be. The thing I might have a problem with is that Eastenders would be using something as sensitive as a stillbirth and reduce it to a plot device.

Assuming that the article is referring to August, it's shaping up to be a decently dramatic summer in Walford this year (with the odd exception of episodes here and there). Perhaps it's to make up for a rather thin post-anniversary spring. |

I hope so too, but he is such a shallow prick and emotionally immature, and her hormones are all over the place. The Slater-Fowler baby was never going to be the baby to suffer stillbirth. This is a very important legacy birth. I love Shabnam and the Masoods, but I hope that Shabnam isn't DTC's designated tragedy queen this time around. |

This is going to be sad but, its going to be good to watch. Rakhee, Davood and the rest of the Masoods are going to be great in this storyline. I wonder if Shabnam is going to shut Kush out so he turns to Stacey. The storyline isn't over. |

I think you're pre-judging Shabnam a bit. There's absolutely no doubt that she does feel immense guilt for having abandoned her daughter. Like Shirley, she's blamed herself and everything that's happened to her since then as punishment for that deed. She's sensible enough to know that she could never bond with the child now, having lost six years of the relationship and having to explain the reason for the abandonment for the child. At the time of her daughter's conception, she was single, alone and from a culture where illegitimate births were not condoned. It wasn't long after that, remember, that her parents were actually shunning her gay brother. I don't think this will make her want to replace the stillborn child with her abandoned daughter, but I do think it might make her re-evaluate her attitude toward actually getting to know the child. There's still no guarantee that Shirley or even Dean will get custody of the girl.
The relationship is suffering because of block storylining. What family with whom have we seen Martin interact? He pops in and out of Ian's from time to time, and the last time we saw him with Rebecca was back in March when he was house-sitting for Ian. We've rarely seen Rebecca since then and only with her mother. Martin's only discernable family in Walford now are Ian and Rebecca. Ian has other fish to fry, pardon the pun, and Rebecca's sightings have been scarce. You might not like it, but this is an important legacy baby, and integrating Stacey, arguably, the most important/iconic character from Millennial EastEnders (who's still alive) with one of the original families on the show is a smart move. I trust DTC on this one. Some things just need time, and less block storylining. |
