Yes!
I agree. I think Matt is such a good young Actor. Dean will finally get his comeuppance for raping Linda, but despite what he did I find the character watchable.

Like we needed even more proof that the writers of this show are completely morally bankrupt.

I could grow to like Shirley again if Dean left, and started to reunite properly with Mick.

But another year of Dean? I really can't be bothered. No doubt Dean/Shirley (and Vincent too) will continue to dominate the Trueman house, whilst Diane Parish gets nothing.

Hmmmm. That's just TWO 12-month contracts though, so presumably this contract only takes Matt up until April 2016?[edit_reason]Formatting[/edit_reason]

It is a character in a television show.

The writers aren't morally bankrupt. As if it's even the writers decision.

Shows like EastEnders thrive on drama and Dean brings drama. This makes sense.

What a load of fucking shite. If he was ugly or old we wouldn't be expected to feel sympathy for him, he'd have been gone months ago.

Imagine Harry Slater sticking around for years.

I don't necessarily think we are supposed to feel sorry for Dean though. He's not written in a particularly sympathic way. He's a spoilt mummy's boy who throws his dummy out the pram when he doesn't get what he wants.

What I find much more interesting than Dean himself is other people's reactions to him.

The thing is there's not even any depth there. Considering the number of murderers we've got swanning round the Square, I could cope with a rapist walking free if we got some insight into his state of mind or he even reacted to what he did. Instead, we're watching him bonk a middle-aged woman and hold challenges for his salon staff. Are we supposed to care about the daily tribulations of a known rapist who shows no remorse?

No matter how powerful those original episodes were, I don't think the rape plot should have happened. It has tainted every character involved.

He has been given a daughter with a life shortening illness. I think it's clear we're supposed to feel sorry for him.

And? He walked out on her and gave up after barely 5 minutes of trying to be a dad. Hardly sympathetic.

It's horrible watching Dean swan around Walford without a care in the world. Yes, I know it can be deemed realistic in terms of the failure to convict in rape cases and Matt Di Angelo is considered a competent actor but I just feel that seeing Dean pay for what he has done - and to realise what he has done - needs to happen on screen sooner rather than later.

Perhaps we could see Dean in prison?

I absolutely hate that argument that EastEnders is mirroring real life by keeping Dean around. By that logic they should do a storyline where a child is murdered because it"mirrors real life."

This storyline and the character of Dean is incredibly frustrating to watch and lost all steam a long, long time ago. At this point I'm just sick of the sight of Dean and just want him off my screens now.

And if they really wanted to mirror 'real life' and the real East End, then the cast wouldn't be predominantly White and British!
