Rapists walking free is realistic but the problem is that they're doing absolutely nothing with the set-up. They could examine Linda's torment at her rapist walking free or Dean's torment as he comes to terms with what he's done but nope Linda is back to normal and Dean still hasn't accepted what he's done and that's the end of the story... until such a time when Matt Di Angelo decides to leave. Don't expect us to do anything with it until then.

Didn't we already know this though? I don't think it's an additional twelve months to what we were already aware of. Call me devil's advocate but I think his original contract was six months, and now his contract is twelve months. So eighteen months in total. I know he said that he thought he'd be back one year, but that doesn't mean that that's what his original contract was. |

I'm genuinely happy with this news. One of my favourite actors on the show staying longer than I thought. This is unpopular, but give me Dean over Stacey any day of the week. |

What has this thread have to do with Stacey? I've noticed on here that posters that don't like Stacey always tend to bring her up when someone expresses a dislike on a particular storyline or character. It's a bit silly as most of the time the discussion topic has absolutely nothing to do with her. Edited by Blokeoptimistic, 4 Aug 2015, 19:17.

Ah, it was just the first character that came into my head. I've warmed a little to her lately anyway! |

Could this be a red hearing. Danny Dyer hinted there is a conclusion at Christmas time. |

Yeah it was reported back in June: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a653101/matt-di-angelo-on-eastenders-i-was-asked-to-stay-for-longer.html#~pkqdKHtf7vF405 I think the original contract was for a year, so 2 years total ending in April 2016 (on screen). Of course they could extend it again but for now I think it's only been extended the once. Edited by Shamelessness, 4 Aug 2015, 20:20.

Now that Ronnie knows about Roxy and Dean I have no idea how they are going to be able to keep him in the show for that long. |

She gets brought up by her fans in topics that don't concern her. And if you don't like her some members will talk to you in a blunt obnoxious manner forever. You'd not be criticising if they'd said they'd take Deano over someone like Jane or someone. |

This whole rape story was completely the wrong path to take Dean. Dominic's biggest mistake, by far. I'd have happily have seen Dean stick around had he not raped Linda. Dean and Roxy could have actually had some mileage... although I love the idea of Max/Roxy. |
Massive thanks to NickM for this wonderful signature! ![]()

A complete farce. 'Dean' drags down everyone around him and a conclusion to this poorly-handled story is beyond overdue. |

Abso-bloody-lutely. If he looked like Minty or Garry Hobbes, he would have been long gone. It's totally an insult to women and victims of rape, not only that he's sticking around, but that we're expected to sympathise with him in certain aspects. Equally reprehensible is Ronnie still strutting about as if she owns the place. We were asked to be in her corner when she returned to the Square with absolutely no remorse about associating with the parents of the child she kidnapped, and people obliged. People still oblige her continuous presence, after having committed murder. So many excuses about how she was justified in killing Carl White when she simply wasn't, any more than Stacey was in killing Archie Mitchell. |

Her detractors seem to bring her up a lot more than posters that people that actually like her. And out of nowhere, Stacey was brought up in this discussion topic and that didn't seem to bother you in the slightest. I apologise if I'm coming across as "obnoxious" but I get the impression it only bothers you if forum posters speak about her in a positive light as you only replied to my post. You didn't even reply to the poster who brought her up in the first place. Edited by Blokeoptimistic, 5 Aug 2015, 11:54.

I was rubbing my hands with glee when I heard this news last night. By far the best return of the last few years, and whilst the rape storyline shouldn't have gone ahead, I'm glad they didn't take the easy route of turning Dean 2D evil and writing him out. |

Basically, we will be seeing Dean as an ordinary character we are meant to root for until Matt decides to leave, then he will get his "comeuppance". What a complete and total farce. Whilst him not getting charged was realistic, imagine a person who had been raped watching this show and being expected to sympathise with the rapist, while the victim just seems to have no long term effects of the ordeal. It's totally offensive. |
| "I loved it in the Olden Days because you talked more. There’s more action now. You know, we would do scenes in the Rovers of me, Bet and Doris Speed with a cup of coffee each before we opened the pub, talking about absolute rubbish. But it was something, and it was what people do." - Betty Driver | |
