I feel like Ian will spot Kathy and run off in anger/shock, and she will follow him back to the Square, at which point it will be night, where she forces him to stay and talk to her at his house.

No running for Ian it seems. He faints!

EastEnders itself is not a warm bath - it's not a show that gives you a cuddle. It's a feral, untamed animal. It's the show that I wasn't really allowed to watch when I was little. I used to sneak down and watch it secretly, because it's naughty! It's a naughty, angry show about life!

The reunion isn't at Night or in the Beale House then...

Interesting that the scenes seem to be filmed in the real East End for once(I am sure I can see the Olympic stadium in the background). I still suspect the explanation scenes will be indoor at the Beale House. They wont want to film too much heavy dialogue on location for cost reasons.

I'm really looking forward to this. I think I'd faint too if a dead relative suddenly materialized. I've only just realized, seeing them together, that Jane and Kathy look a bit alike. They say men go for someone that remind them of their mothers. :D
You can't just come bounding in here like John Wayne on a Spacehopper!

This does good brilliant and I think the fact that Ian sees his mother alive in broad daylight actually is more dramatic than having it at night as he can't deny it happened. If it was at night he could easily write it off as his mind playing tricks on him.

They sound alike too, and I've always said that Ian was Oedipal.

I sat there for a good five minutes saying 'Jane' and 'Kathy' aloud trying to make them sound similar until I realised what you meant. I think I'm going stupid.

Well yeah some things they literally can not be changed naturally. It's a fair few things she had done. Not sure it's Kathy, my aunt thinks it's not in character much more harsh about it too and I agree. Perfect for footballers wives though.
Cast is always going more on looks these days to be fair. Much more attractive cast now then say the 80s.

Julia Smith "We decided to go for a realistic, fairly outspoken type of drama which could encompass stories about homosexuality, rape, unemployment, racial prejudice, etc., in a believable context. Above all, we wanted realism".

Maybe she's just looked after herself very well. Maybe she just has good genes.

Nobody gets less wrinkles to that extent or lifts in certain places when you get older no cream no matter what it says does that. She looks 20 years younger then when she left. Like saying she didn't look after herself before? I actually found her more attractive then, older looking yes but more attractive. The neck being different is the very obvious sign. She has had far more work done then Sam Womack something you brought up yesterday. Some things literally can not change like that naturally.
Like I said not sure it's in character fair play to Gillian though.

It is out of character for salt of the earth Kathy Jade. But I don't think Kathy's appearance will be the most out of character thing about the comeback. That award goes to the 'Kathy lets her children think she's dead for years' part..That's not something the Kathy I knew would ever do....But to be fair, who knows what Kathy has become due to life and circumstance. I suppose if someone truly had to abandon her children and allow them to think they're dead, possibly for life threatening reasons, then it is not unfeasible to think that this might change someone. Forced into dependency perhaps - because her life depended on it or because she lost every other attachment figure known to her and only had Gavin left. Maybe there's abuse. Maybe Kathy had to make sure she was desirable for her man and that meant defying the ageing process. Maybe being disposable to him put her in a dangerous position. (All this of course if we suspend the knowledge that we know the actress just wanted to look younger)

You have to suspend belief when being entertained by fiction.

Isn't that why it's fiction? Meh.

I'm not sure that people know, but when Smith and Holland originally auditioned Taylforth (for the role of Sue Osman), they were so taken with her that they significantly lowered Kathy's age so she could play her. Then they SORASed Ian, so Kathy would've been 18 when she had him.

I remember hearing about that ages ago and thinking it was interesting. She also was at first considered too young so she plays her age up I believe/
Something I am confused about is the ages of them all. As in the 80s Angie explains about her and Den were school sweethearts and Kathy was in the same class as her. Den was school friends with Pete Beale. But wasn't Pete older than Kathy? Bearing that in mind how were they all at school together, especially Angie and Kathy being in the same class.
Gavin clearly wasn't in the same class as you can see he is much older than Kathy and the others. No way he was at school with any of them.
