I find it very frustrating with Location Managers get paid a salary and only manage to pick an 'ideal location' which always happens to be within a 2 minute walk from Elstree Studios. This is the closed street opposite Elstree Film and TV studios. I wish they'd use more East End locations - Walthamstow, Stratford, Leytonstone, Shoreditch, Hackney, Bow, Bethnal Green, Ilford and Barking are all supposedly a stones throw from the Square so why not... |

Because it's too expensive. |

Surely a license to film in a local street is no different in cost than a license to film in a street further afield? Perhaps the show should reduce stunt castings like Richard Deadwood to pay for the increased fees. |

I suppose as it's a two minute walk away it'll be cheaper to transport actors, crew and equipment. |

The thing with location shooting is others have said that the production has to justify spending a considerable amount of money on transporting cast, crew and equipment. It also depends on how long the shoot is expected to last and if the scene justifies going the extra cost. |

Indeed. This is Eldon Avenue, which just happens to be the side road that BBC Elstree Centre opens out to. You can just about make out Borehamwood Tesco Extra in the background (which is next to Elstree Studios where Big Brother and Strictly are filmed). They also used a house in Eldon Avenue some years ago for Poppy's flat, supposedly in Bethnal Green. They did a similar thing a few weeks ago filming Charlie's exit scenes when Elstree and Borehamwood Station doubled up as Dartford East Station. Arguably, and to play devil's advocate, if you aren't familiar with Elstree and Borehamwood, where EastEnders is filmed, or with East London, it doesn't really make a difference on screen where their location shoots are at. Kathy's return seems to be filmed in the real east end as I am sure I could see the Olympic stadium in the background and the tower blocks look familiar. I imagine it is the cost of filming in the real east end but also the fact Eastenders wont want to admit that the population of albert square is not entirely realistic to the population of the real east end where I live. Id love scenes one day at westfiled but filming them would be mayhem as its so busy all day long people would mob them. The worse location ever was the underground station used for Charlie Slater's Exit. All bushy trees which are clearly not possible because its a completely inner city area with no tress high enough visible. Edited by Forest11, 8 Aug 2015, 18:32.

For those of us not living in London it doesn't make a jot of difference if it is one street away or a miles. I don't see what the issue is? |

For me, one street in the whole of England looks very much like another street in England. Unless they were filming outside my front door, I would never notice it wasn't where they said it was supposed to be |

I like playing "Spot the Borehamwood street" when they do location scenes. The best one was in 1996 when Barry is driving Cindy and the boys from Walford to Waterloo you actually see a sign "Elstree Film Studios" in the background when they are driving along. |

It's because the East End looks notably different in design to Hertfordshire. It just makes it feel that bit more special when I see an East London location, but maybe it's just me? |

This is a show that requires 2 hours worth of finished material to be delivered each and every week of the year, staying close to base probably is the only thing that allows them to go beyond the square on a semi regular basis and still get it all done in time. |
| Warning: Posts made by The Local Butcher may contain sarcasm, frustrated expressions of fatigue in the face of Eastenders' neverending insanity, desperate and ill-conceived attempts to be funny, controversial opinions and nuts. Not necessarily in that order. | |

Perhaps they should look at a London location for the 2018 rebuild. |

Really. The theme of this producer's tenure is "Bloodlines Matter." Kick to the curb any adoptive/legal relationship that's lasted for years with known characters. Sharon now refers to her parents as "Den and Ange", whilst referring to Carol Hanley as her real mum - the woman who put her up for adoption and then subsequently rejected her again - and the elusive Gavin as her real dad. Five minutes after Gavin Sullivan reveals his identity to her, she'll be referring to him as "Dad." We've all heard Dean the Rapist refer to his father - the man who raised him and whose name appears on his birth certificate - as "Kevin." Buster, after exactly five minutes, is "Dad." I know Jade is in care, but the way this storyline is working, we'll have a massive custody battle between Shirley and Shabnam before she settles down - surprise surprise - with Dean and Kush the Prick goes sniffing around a heavily pregnant Stacey. As Bette Davis said in All about Eve. What a mess! |

You must know what the East End of London looks like. For those of us further afield we have no idea, so it makes no difference if it is genuine or not. It really on becomes an issue if they a setting something around an iconic London landmark. Otherwise 95% of viewers won't know the difference. |

I live and work in the East End. It's so built up. The classic I remember was when Cora and Tanya went to Avas school, supposedly in Dalston. A rundown part of Hackney. On the show it had a beautiful ground, with grass, a car park and trees in the distance. My entire family laughed. It couldn't have been further from Dalston. |

The issue being it does make a difference to those who do live in London. Why are you so special that whether it matters to you or not is more important? The show is set in London, is an advert for London and for authenticity it would be good to see the show make an effort when on location for this purpose. Dismissing it because 'I can't tell the difference so whats the problem' is just dumb.

These shabnham and jade scenes do look a bit like some parts of South London where they supposed to be. |
