"You're enjoying your day, everything's going your way, then along comes Debbie Downer. Always there to tell you 'bout a new disease, a car accident, or killer bees. You'll beg her to spare you, 'Debbie, please!' but you can't stop Debbie Downer!" |

Gosh, the Gavin fun soon turned into a group of bullies in the playground spouting off at someone who isn't part of their gang. |

Not at all. There's no gang to be apart of in effect, but when someone complains about the enjoyment that many are having, after weeks of people complaining of bad atmospheres, there's going to be a little bit of a "oh shush" response. It's temporary, it's light hearted and if people REALLY can't tolerate it, they know it's going to be over in a couple of days so they can either stay away until Friday, or just dodge the Gavin related threads - "So, Kathy...", "The Gavin Obsession", "All things |

This seems to be getting a bit catty. I'm not part of this Gavin thingymajig, I find it almost as bizarre as the Lola's mum meme! I certainly don't feel the need to try and begrudge others a bit of fun if gibbering about Gavin makes them happy. Nowt wrong with a bit of temporary silliness now and then!

I get people's annoyance with the whole Gavin... 'craze'. It can be tedious to go into multiple threads and read a number of Gavin posts that frankly, stopped being funny after about the 20th one IMO. Especially when they are popular threads such as episode discussions, 'So, Kathy' and 'All Things Eastenders'. The usernames and poll alterations don't bother me though, that's just a bit of fun. I think a happy medium would be if we could try to stay vaguely on topic and have less of the Gavin jokes streamed one after another, something which I've noticed has improved today. That way, people can still have their fun and people who don't see the appeal can still enjoy reading this forum. I agree that posts complaining about the situation, multiple posts essentially saying the same thing no less, won't help either. People aren't going to stop participating in the fun just because someone has a moan. At the same time, just because someone is taking issue with it and voicing their opinion, they shouldn't be singled out to feel like a downer either. Live and let live and all that... within reason. Props to those who are enjoying the atmosphere on here much more because of Gavin The Great by the way. Personally, I prefer the bitchiness and the drama but that's just me.

The Gavin thing started because people were all reckoning that he was going to be something to everyone - that he was Vincent's father, that he was Brian Slater and, thereby, Stacey's father, that he was going to return at Christmas with Janine as his wife, when at the moment he's simply Kathy's husband and, most probably, Sharon's birth father. The actor has, however, portrayed Jesus Christ, a kiddy diddler and a cat, so saying Gavin is Jesus Christ, a kiddy diddler and a cat is pretty accurate. |

To be fair your enjoyment of the site has also been ruined by the fact you don't like reading posts that are too long. You can't have your cake and eat it. |

Actually I disagree. I no longer see the longer posts so my enjoyment has been restored. I do feel however because I have been vocal about the Gavin issue, that I have been singled out as grumpy when I have received lots of messages of support from other members who feel it had gotten out of hand and their enjoyment of the site was also spoilt. As someone has already pointed out, because I was vocal I took the backlash from people. I wasn't aware there had been a negative feeling on the forum prior to this, so was surprised to read that people were fed up? But then maybe because I have blocked certain posters and so haven't been subjected to it? |

Maybe now we have a Gavin thread we can keep all our Gavin fun in here that way anyone can avoid this thread and just read the other ones? Some threads hold no interest to me so I don't read them. Since we now have a Gavin thread keep it in here as a compromise? Then the rest can be read on their EE enjoyment subjects?

Your approval is neither desired nor required. Julia Smith "We decided to go for a realistic, fairly outspoken type of drama which could encompass stories about homosexuality, rape, unemployment, racial prejudice, etc., in a believable context. Above all, we wanted realism". | |

Actually, I'm going to close this thread as I don't think we need another Gavin thread and it's descending into sniping which is the opposite of what we intended when we started this silliness. Let's still have fun but as Dan said let's try not to disrupt anyone's debates with it. Gavin. |
