Where have all the kids gone?; The inevitable thread following the latest exits

I'm sorry but when did Eastenders turn into a show where it's left with just 1 character under 18 (not counting babies) who gets any significant screentime?

Following the exits of Liam and Cindy there are currently only six kids on this show who are old enough to count as characters in their own right. Rebecca is practically invisible as the only teenage girl. Denny might as well not exist. Amy and Lily are still fairly young and don't get much to do yet and it remains the be seen whether Jade will ever become a more permanent character. The only one gets any decent screentime is Bobby and only because he's the killer.

I miss having families with multiple kids in this show. There used to loads of them. We had the Beales with Peter, Lucy and Steven/Bobby/Cindy. The Butchers with Liam, Tiff and Morgan. The Brannings in their early years with Abi and Lauren. The Foxes with Libby, Chelsey and Jordan. The Millers had a bunch. The Spraggans for a bit.... etcetera.

I miss teen friendships groups like Peter/Lucy/Lauren, Abi/Jay/Ben/Lola, Ian/Sharon/Michelle hanging out.

I miss kids causing trouble just because they're kids.

I sincerely hope plans are under way to bring in some new blood following the exodus we've been through over the last couple of years (either by characters being axed, actors leaving or by them simply growing up). It's time for the next generation of kids and teens to make their mark because frankly it's getting awfully quiet without them.

When Bryan Kirkwood was here,it was more teens, less adults and elders, now we have useless elders like Claudette

I remember friendships like Ian/Sharon/Michelle/Kelvin which then turned into Ian loves Sharon but Sharon loves Kelvin but Michelle also loves Kelvin and then everyone thinks Ian is Vicki's father

Might be unpopular but it doesn't really bother me. Yes, they do need representation but give me the adults over shitty teen dramas.

Teen overload doesn't work,I'd have maybe 1 teen storyline going on at once and no love triangles/squares,the only teen who I want badly to have a storyline is Rebecca who should develop an eating disorder,Sonia's concern for Liam seemed strong how would it be for her daughter

Gavin's taken them.

I've noticed this too. The young cast have been growing increasingly low on number since Dom took over. Ironic as it is given the dominance we had from them under Kirkwood, but I miss the likes of Lauren, Whitney, Lola, Lucy, Peter, Jay and Abi featuring prominently.

Completely agree.

The problem under the BK wasn't strictly the dominance of the youngsters, it was just they were given storylines that didn't suit their age. (Like an afternoon of drunk spin the bottle leading to petty relationship squabbles for months on end.)

They can upstairs like Tracy Barlow did listening to their tapes until they're older and therefore are capable of handling their own story and not stealing screentime from the adults.

I don't really fancy seeing a summer of the twenty somethings acting like fifteen whilst they all pine over the latest hottie, and I also don't fancy seeing Denny pushing crayons over.

Bad writing happens to characters of all ages. We've seen just as much shitty adult drama over the years. Right now I'd rather watch a Rebecca love triangle than spent another minute on Ronnie and Roxy.

Personal tastes may differ but I don't think anyone can honestly say that Eastenders doesn't need at least one nuclear family with multiple young children/teens in it. It's an area which the show is currently lacking and it needs to be addressed.

I agree with all of this. There is Janet as well. Emmerdale and Coronation Street show the children quite often.

Would you like to see any of these kids more Janet, Lily and Amy? In Emmerdale a young character called April is used alot and the actress who plays her is so talented and cute. Abi was seen alot at 10 and 11.

Do you remember Lauren, Abi, Peter, Lucy, Jay, Ben and Whitney in 2007, 2008 and 2009 so when they were all under 16?

I remember in 2004 when there was Peter, Lucy, Demi, Darren, Bobby, Freddie and Aleesha. In 2005 we had Ruby, Demi, Darren, Peter, Lucy, Rebecca, Bobby, Freddie and Aleesha. In 2006 from January-July we had Demi, Darren, Libby, Peter, Lucy, Ben, Courtney, Rebecca, Bobby, Freddie and Aleesha and from July 2006-February 2007 we had Libby, Darren, Peter, Lucy, Lauren, Abi, Ben, Jay, Rebecca, Bobby and Janet. From February 2007-March 2008 we had Libby, Darren, Peter, Lucy, Lauren, Abi, Ben, Jay, Bobby, Janet, William, Oscar and Summer. From April 2008-September 2008 we had Libby, Darren, Peter, Lucy, Lauren, Abi, Ben, Jay, Bobby, Whitney, Liam, Tiffany, Morgan, Oscar, Janet and William, Oscar and Summer. From October 2008-August 2009 we had Libby, Darren, Whitney, Peter, Lucy, Lauren, Jay, Abi, Ben, Liam, Tiffany, Morgan, Bobby, Dotty, Jordan, Amy, Oscar and Summer. From September 2009-February 2010 we had Peter, Lucy, Lauren, Abi, Ben, Jay, Whitney, Liam, Tiffany, Morgan, Bobby, Dotty, Amy, Jordan and Oscar. From March 2010-December 2010 we had Peter, Lucy, Lauren, Jay, Whitney, Abi, Ben, Louise, Liam, Tiffany, Morgan, Bobby, Amy, Kamil, Lily and Oscar. From January 2011-August 2012 we had Lauren, Abi, Jay, Ben, Lola, Liam, Tiffany, Morgan, Bobby, Amy, Shenice and Lucy. From September 2012-August 2013 we had Abi, Lola, Liam, Tiffany, Morgan, Amy, Lexi and Bobby. From September 2013-September 2014 we had Liam, Cindy, Rebecca, Tiffany, Bobby, Morgan, TJ, Rosie, Amy, Lily, Janet and Lexi. From September 2014-August 2015 we had Liam, Cindy, Rebecca, Bobby, Lily, Amy, Janet, Dennis, Lexi, Matthew, Bert, Ernie, Ollie and Pearl and now we only have Rebecca, Bobby, Lily, Amy, Janet, Dennis, Ollie, Pearl and Matthew.

Emmerdale show kids like April, Sarah and Amelia quite alot. Belle in Emmerdale was seen quite alot when Eden Taylor Draper took over in 2005 and won a award at 9 at The British Soap Awards in 2007 and she won another in 2013 and Amelia Flanagan has won 3 awards at age 6. Ellis Hollins from Hollyoaks won a award at 6 as well. Best young performance at the soap awards is mainly for children/teens so I would say from 6-16/17.

I know they were all mainly shit but a part of me really does miss the Melissa Suffield/Thomas Law/Madeline Duggan/Jamie Borthwick/Charlie Jones/Lorna Fitzgerald days of 2007 or so. I think it's because I was roughly the same age as them and I'm just nostalgic for late 2007 in general.

The infamous Pied Piper of Hamelin has clearly paid Walford a visit.

Shame he forgot Bobby, Amy and Denny.
