Did anyone spot Phil and Kathy's hand lingering moment in tonight's episode? Phil is determined to help Kathy so could there be an affair in future? Phil and Kathy were married before so I wouldn't be surprised if he cheats on Sharon with Kathy.

Do you think Phil and Kathy will get back together?

No. Now that Sharon is part of the Mitchell's I think they will want to keep her there for the foreseeable future.

Interpretation is subjective, but all that scene proved was that there had once been a connection between Phil and Kathy. The Beale-Mitchell relationship, with Sharon involved, is going to be incestuous enough, without a Phil-Kathy affair cropping up.

Phil and Kathy are finished as a couple. That horse has bolted. Besides, I don't think Kathy is the sort to break up a marriage. Also, I don't think the writers would split Phil and Sharon up after having worked so hard to get Phil and Sharon together, they're not going to split them up now. What would be the point?

Sharon doesn't work well as an isolated character, and that's exactly what she'd be. We've been there before, and it didn't work. Thinking about it, even a return of Grant and Sharongate in reverse would be entirely ridiculous at this point in time. Besides, Kathy has a family base - she has Ian and Ben.

Don't even mention the aspect of Sharon setting up house with her long-lost father and son. Gavin isn't a character who's going to last more than two years at the most.

People need to remember that Kathy's contemporaries on the show are Pam Coker and Cora Cross. Kathy is 65 - the same age as Pam and four years younger than Cora.

Mrs Peel, do you like Kathy and Phil better as friends?

Also if they were planning to split them up they would not have bothered with them getting married. I suspect they had a long term plan for Phil and Sharon sorted as soon as Sharon returned, they put her with jack (which I think we all agree was a mistake) as Phil was with Shirley, it was only a matter of time before she was back with Phil.

Yep he didn't seem impressed, Phil realises she really hasn't thought any of this through including how it will affect ben and Ian. He thought he would gave her the money in feb and that would be the end of it. He certainly never thought she would end up back in the square, so close to Ben, Ian and Sharon.

I don't think the people in charge of the thing had a rat's arse clue what to do with Sharon when she returned. Seriously. By the time she'd appeared, Kirkwood was gone, and Newman was heavily invested in "redeeming" Kat, a character in whose creation she'd had a hand, and creating the legend known as Ava. She left Sharon to the devices of Simon Ashdown, the worst possible person to integrate Sharon into the community again.

We had the shoulder-shrug moment when she was told of Pat's death, and Sharon and Pat were incredibly close. She never asked once about Pauline or any of the Fowlers and didn't mention Michelle for a year. Instead, she was moulded into a Branning clone and her behaviour was totally alien to everything established about her - sleeping with Jack the first night she was back in Walford, begging for crumbs from Tanya's table as her instant "best mate" after five minutes, being an abject bitch to Kirsty Branning, something she would never have done in a million years, and don't even mention the silly false engagement to Phil and the totally unrealistic prescription drug addiction.

Letitia Dean said the writers had asked her if she wanted anything special for Sharon this time around. She stated she would like a close female friend, of the type she had with Michelle. She suggested Shirley. She got Tanya. Seeing Sharon immersed with the Brannings, jilted at the altar by Jack and hunkered down in the B and B after a year, homeless, was a total insult to the character and the show should be ashamed of itself.

In fact, it should be ashamed of the slate job done on the characters of Sharon, Kat and Bianca by inexperienced and ineffective writers.

She's done something that merits punishment by imprisonment. That could be as little as faking your death, but she also doesn't want to involve Gavin, and turning herself in will implicate him. Obviously, the faked deaths meant faked identities, but the money she's been cadging off Phil is to provide Gavin with a new identity and financial security to escape.

Whatever crime she's committed, I hope to hell it's not another murder.

Yeah actually I think I was giving them way to much credit, the bit that sums it up to me is Letitia saying would like a close female friend and suggesting Shirley, I think that would worked brilliantly, after all Letitia knows Sharon well (a damn sight better then the writers on the show at the time) instead we got bitchy comments between Sharon and Shirley for months on end (something Sharon never would have done) and a friendship with her new 'best friend' Tanya, a woman who in her previous stints Sharon wouldn't have gone near as she would never have dreamed of being friends with such a snobby hypocrite.
Also sleeping with jack on the first night...yes Sharon had had two husbands, a fiancé and a few lovers by that put in her life but she would never have slept with a guy she had just met. I just hope they don't ruin Kathy like they did to Sharon and Kat when they returned.

Phil and Kathy are over and I'll be very surprised if they get back together. It was a toxic marriage (when Phil became an alcoholic). Yes, they both truly loved each other but that is in the past. Phil and Sharon are married now and Sharon is the matriarch of the Mitchells. There's no way they are going to split up Phil and Sharon after working so hard to reunite them in 2013/2014. Sharon belongs with the Mitchells and she doesn't work as an independent character. Look at what happened in 2013?!? Sharon living in the B&B was horrendous to watch.

Kathy's return will mean more tension for Phil and Sharon but I think they will overcome this and hopefully their relationship will be stronger. Phil needs to treat Sharon better and that may happen after Kathy's return to the Square.
