What would you do with Stacey?

Martin was attracted to Stacey, but Martin has been married to one woman since he was little more than an adolescent, himself. He was socially gauche. He made his reservations abundantly clear to Stacey - his words were "I'm not even sure there is an 'us' yet" as he was unsure of their status as a couple. She'd sleep with him, and then bin him off the next day, grouse for a few days and then sleep with him again. She was doing what Rebecca accused Fuck-Off-Sonia of doing: using Martin, when something wasn't right in the relationship Sonia wanted to pursue.

Well, Stacey did just that with Martin and got up the duff. Martin wants a relationship that's solid and quite often a child doesn't make a relationship, especially when two people don't really know each other at all. Since that time, however, he's put himself out for her, and she treats him like shit. She lies to him, she deceives him, and she disdains his intelligence. She isn't making an effort to know the man at all.

I don't think Martin loves her at all yet, if he did he wouldn't have told her to have an abortion. You don't tell that to someone you love even after you know they want this child. Stacey was at least mature enough to talk to him and give him a second chance to be a father even after he initially didn't want to be involved.
Just because you love someone it doesn't mean that automatically you want a family with them.
Of course not I'm not saying it does. Martin probably does care about Stacey but he doesn't love or care enough for her to let her make such a hugely emotional decision for herself which could affect the rest of her life. He simply wanted to get rid and if Stacey didn't stand her ground there would be no baby now. Martin is weak like his father. Actually, probably weaker, as Arthur would never have asked someone he cared about to have an abortion, he would have stepped up or at the very least had provided maintenance. Arthur and Pauline would be spinning in thier graves if they saw his initial behaviour, especially after Pauline fought tooth and nail to get custody of Rebecca from the vile Sonia.

Arthur Fowler wasn't a weak man. He was decent, and that is often mistaken by people for weakness. The way Bradley demanded Stacey abort their baby, was cold and callous. Martin was very articulate in his reservations about the pair of them having a child. Stacey made it abundantly clear on numerous occasions that she only considered him a mate. She was insisting that the afternoon she spent with him at the allotments, when they bonded over losing much-loved fathers at an early age.

Martin accepted that. Then the next moment, she was climbing into bed with him, but only because she was jealous of Kush and Shabnam together. The next day, it was a one-off; a few days later, she was sleeping with him again. That isn't a relationship, and if Martin knew about her feelings for Kush, he'd readily identify her behaviour as using him as a substitute when she couldn't get what she wanted.

He wasn't cruel; he was honest. Yes, Stacey was well within her rights to say she was having the child, but she emotionally manipulated him. She knew, from Whitney's testimony, that Martin was someone who accepted responsibilities, and when he accepted her pregnancy, she still wasn't satisfied. She was even then asking him to leave.

Now, he's on board with this pregnancy, but she's shutting him out. Of course, he knows nothing about bi-polar syndrome, but she's not discussing her condition with him, what it entails and she certainly should be including him in discussions with midwives and psychiatric support. When she said tonight that this was about her and baby, she wasn't even thinking of Lily and the repercussions a severe bi-polar episode might have on her. If things get too bad, Social Services could step in.

Stacey sees her father's behaviour regarding Jean's bi-polar as the optimum by which she is measuring Martin.

I'm calling it now. Brian had an affair and another family and used that as a get-out-of-jail escape route when dealing with Jean became too much. They key will hold the answer to that.
