I've had an interesting idea in my head for a few years that EE very nearly done once but the story was cancelled when there was a change of producers.

I'd like to see a plague of moths overpower the Square, starting with the market. I'd like it to start with a Hollywood cinematic esque close up shot of a moth on the fruit at Martins stall and suddenly we see residents begin to react to an approaching noise. Suddenly, they're everywhere.

It will be a brilliant opportunity to reconstruct some parts of the set and also allow the show to kill off a character, possibly Sonia when she is decapitated by a larger moth?

The potential is there if writers think carefully to ensure its realistic.
is this serious
Yes, it was scrapped by Kathleen Hutchison. It was the original story that would lead to Den Watts' death in 2005 but she ordered a story rewrite.

I think someone maliciously poisoning people would be a good story to develop. Drinks in the pub, fruit and veg on the stall, the minute mart. They could easily kill off a few characters in the process. It could then turn out to be Les who has been trying to generate business

We could find out its Gavin in a Christmas reveal and then have a whodunit murder!

Why Brian Kirkwood?
Because that storyline would be very Hollyoaks-esque. Also sounds quite similar to a storyline they're currently running, hence NevermindMe's 'gloved hand poisoner'.

Hollyoaks currently have a story with a gloved hand administering lethal injections on various residents. It's called 'the gloved hand killer' and viewers are no doubt left guessing until Bryan decides who he wants it to be. Such a ridiculous soap, if you can even call it that.

It's no longer a continuing drama, each episode is basically a standalone show because the stories and characters chop and change like the wind.

Why all the constant bitchy digs about Hollyoaks? Each to their own, but I find it amusing how some on here are quick to have a dig at it when some admit they have never seen the show or don't watch it anymore and before I get accused of being a blind fan.. I've been a long term viewer, who has been very critical about the current state of the show I grew up loving from Toby the serial killer days etc! ;)

I don't watch Hollyoaks so have no idea what their storylines have ever been or are currently. I just liked the thought of various residents being effected and across a range of locations in the square.

Plus it would ultimately lead to Les having to go! A plus in anyone's book!

The thing with Hollyoaks is that there's no continuity, no lasting effects of things and no morality with ANY of the characters. At least with EE you can invest in characters and 9 times out of 10 the writers stay loyal to a character. Also, almost everyone in HO has either killed someone, put someone in hospital and/or cheated on someone. There's not one character that you can fully invest in.

Anyone, back on topic...I'd quite like to see a PTSD storyline or something along those lines.

To be fair, Albert Square isn't much better.

We have:

The Criminals and they're associates (Stacey, Ronnie, Roxy (covering up Carl's murder) Dean, Bobby, Pam (killed her own son), Les (knows about Pam and Laurie) Jane, Ian, Sharon (all covering up a murder), Dot, Phil, Charlie, Martin (killed Jamie), Ben, Alfie the arsonist, Kathy and Gavin, Jay, Shirley, probably Vincent and Claudette, Buster, Billy)

Those not mentioned who have cheated: (Max, Lauren, Paul, Kush, Tina, Sonia, Carol, Denise, Whitney, Kat)

And those who have done both (Stacey, Roxy, Sharon, Phil, Charlie, Ben and even Jay cheated on Abi)

So that leaves us with: Patrick, Abi, Shabnam, Tamwar, Masood, Kim, Fatboy, Cora, Linda, Mick, Lee, Nancy, Donna and Carmel who haven't had an affair or committed an offence. That's less than a quarter of the cast!

Patrick cheated on Yolande with Pat.
Abi just bumped into Lucy and battered her (and killed Tramp driving drunk).
Mick assaulted Dean.

Cora also had an ASBO when she joined.

I think the difference is that most Hollyoaks characters seem to lurch from one crisis to the next without any real fluidity so it's difficult to invest in them.

However, EastEnders isn't completely exempt from similar criticisms. It's starting to feel less about the lives of ordinary working class people and more about how many residents can cover up any number of secrets at any one time. I've loved the Lucy story twists of the past month but when I look back on that original episode of Ian finding out and now see what the Beales have become, I despair a little bit. When plots overtake characters, that's when the show starts to lose its heart.

I would like the bookies to reopen as that was the hot spot people went to whenever they were broke, or pit a character against another if they owe money. Gangsta era. The bookies also can enable storylines to do with changes in the economy. I.E the recession. I want programmes like EE to stop tiptoeing the line, and simply be brave enough to tackle more of the pc stigma. I want corporate bullies like Ian, Phil (and money scroungers like Shirley and Ronnie) to be handed their arse - which I'm hoping Gavin will.

I want a normal storyline with a young character about their experiences at school, EE is severely neglecting its young audiences. I began watching EE when I was 8 or 9. Doesn't have to monopolise the screen, just something! Like the pressure of getting into uni, pit Abi against a character that's the polar opposite and assess both of their life choices.

I want Massood to leave, my least favourite character on EE atm. Some people like him but I think he's a bully and has damaged all his children to such an extent I don't understand why he's the character that's used to offer his opinions about Ians parenting, both are clueless.

I.Want.More.Jay. And I don't care what it is!! Pretty good suggestions from above! But it would be interesting if Gavin became a surrogate father to him after Phil neglects him one too many times. The push and pull from people like Ben, Billy, Sharon and Phil during that could sow the seeds for a story where Jay is asked to betray the Mitchells in exchange for a better quality of life. (echoing Denise Rickman and Andys relationship)

I want that stupid issue of Billy perving Lucys photos to be resolved. Much like people can't stand Ronnie and Dean to walk around without repercussion I'm amazed that Billys actions haven't been addressed. It would be intense drama to watch him tackle such a storyline.

I want Marcus Christie to crack the who killed Lucy case. And for Keeble to stick around longer!

And lastly I want Sean back though I realise It won't be soon, maybe a guest appearance? anddd I want a storyline where Martin grows a pair and wins over Stacey. :)

I agree with a storyline for Jay, any storyline. You know they could throw anything at Jamie Borthwick and he'd knock it out of the park, yet they seem to forget he's there unless he's needed to play backup to Ben. I want a storyline for Roxy that doesn't involve sleeping with her sister's husbands.

Same goes for Denise. I was really hoping we'd see her alcoholism storyline, but they seem to have dropped that.

Other than that - I'd like to see Billy struggling to be a single parent to Janet, a mental health story for Abi. And I like the idea of a cyberbullying storyline for Rebecca. It's a pretty common issue and I don't think EastEnders have ever really touched on it?

I'd like to see an early onset dementia story, as Alzheimer's disease doesn't only affect the elderly.

It would be a truly gripping ordeal if it were to befall a character like Jay, or perhaps even more so a character with (young) children: imagine the heartbreak of Linda Carter slowly fading away, to the point where she no longer recognizes Mick and her children. Imagine the Carters having to deal with decisions like whether or not to put Linda in a care home.

I think this is something EastEnders could be very good at, especially if the story is given to a strong, healthy character played by a talented actor or actress.

I also think tackling benefit fraud would be a good one to portray, have a character struggling to live within their means and working on the side whilst collecting benefits and have them ultimately caught out. Sends a clear message out to those cheating the benefit system.

We kind of saw a bit of cyber-bullying with Lucy doing it to Whitney. As far as I can remember (I could be wrong) only Tamwar knows about it...
