Yesterday, I was lucky enough to tag along to the EastEnders summer party which was held in Albert Square itself. It's mainly for the crew and their families to go to - there are rides and face-painting and things for the kids, and the Albert serves actual drinks - but there were quite a few actors there as well. We met the Irish copper and his mum on the train on the way in. He was really nice and said how nervous he was doing his first scenes, which were with Ian after Lucy's death. Ian himself was at the gate helping to give out wristbands. I said hello to Danny Dyer and Kush - Danny Dyer was lovely, happily posing for photos with anyone who asked. My friend's sister-in-law was carefully taking a selfie of herself and her baby outside Beale's Plaice and they got photobombed - by Kathy Beale herself! She was lovely. I told her and Marcus the lawyer how great it was to have them back. And I had a little chat with Linda Carter - also lovely. There was a gospel group singing on a stage outside Phil's back door. Whitney got up and a few numbers with them. She's very beautiful and glamorous. Ben and Jay did a jokey smoochy dance together. At one point I saw Ben and Kathy both singing along to O Happy Day but they didn't see each other - it was like St Pancras station all over again! Kathy was quite caught up in the music and was waving a little toy bear along to it, but then she caught Ian filming her on his phone and laughed. And Patrick Trueman was well into the music as well - singing and dancing along. Claudette and the Coker grandson had a little dance together too. Martin and Stacey showed up towards the end. And I saw Kush and Bonnie Langford introducing each other to their real life families. Shabnam was behind us on the train on the way home but we left her and her friends in peace. It was all very nice and a lovely day even if I did feel like I'd fallen into my television. And when I had my photo taken by the Albert Square sign and one of the spikes of the railings came off in my hand, I felt like I'd broken the Square. |

I think they did this last year, Shane Ritchie's band played. It's a nice idea for the cast/crew to enjoy a chill out together |

I wouldn't worry about breaking the set because that fence has not been fixed since new year. And once upon I time I visited the set and it is so surreal because it takes a few seconds to realise you're not watching on telly but are actually there. It gave me the shakes. |

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the spikes on the railings are meant to be able to be easily removed for shooting purposes. Little random tidbit there. |
