The block storytelling is a big issue with the show just now. Just when you think a storyline is going to move forward it stops for weeks and weeks then when it comes back to the same story you find it hard to keep invested as it's been so long since anything happened. They made the Ramsgate mystery out to be a big story and it was pretty much all tied up in 1/2 episodes this week. |

The added secret given Babe was totally unnecessary also. That was a damp squib. Baby rings of that sort existed during the Sixties and Seventies because people, for whatever reason, didn't want to go through the length of time and paperwork an adoption entailed. My husband was adopted as an infant. In those days, babies stayed with their birth mothers for six weeks until being taken into care whilst a family was found and the long, administrative paperwork began. My husband's adoption wasn't complete until he was 16 months old. Re Cora's relation of Ava's adoption, that happened amazingly quick, which begs one to think that maybe her parents arranged to have the baby sold. |

If Max gets sent down then it takes away any kind of dramatic tension from it as me know Max is only taking a break. A bit like how Dot's verdict earlier this year felt so dramatic for me yet her prison time has been pretty much odds and ends. Also feels as though Max's trial has been rushed forward. I'm sure murder trials take longer than that to set up. The time between Janine's arrest for killing Laura and her trial was so long they even had time to feature the arrival and exit of a legendary character (Chrissie). But I think they might have a deadline for Jake Wood's leaving date so its a small niggle. |

This is soap. Time is encapsulated. Normally a trial of this magnitude wouldn't occur until at least a year after the arrest. Janine's arrest came in December 2013 and her trial was accomplished in March. Even in Saskia's tale, Matthew and Steve were arrested in at the beginning of summer and the trial had finished by the summer's end. |

Janine's arrest early/mid 2005. Janine's trial at the arse end of 2005. Johnny Allen arrested in March 2006. Still on remand in October 2006. |

I'm well aware of the time length between Janine's arrest and trial in 2005; I was referring to her last situation. The reason for the length of time a decade ago was that the actress's actual last scene, before leaving the show (and she was pregnant at the time) was when she was being taken away by the police. TPTB then tried to negotiate at least a one-episode return with Charlie Brooks, but she wouldn't agree, so the "trial" was shown without Janine, and Janine was said to have left without even speaking to Frank at its end. The same held true for Billy Murray, although they at least got him to return for one episode. BTW, this is why we got the bog-standard "Alice Branning couldn't appear at the trial because she tried to self-harm that morning" excuse because Jasmine Banks refused to return to do the episode. |
