A Carter New Year

After last night's Cracker of an episode I had a little lurk on DS to see the reaction and I saw a poster claiming Danny Dyer has said New Year's Day will be dominated by the Carters.

I wonder how people feel about this? I think it's the right thing. It suggests they'll have a quiet Christmas which is right, if they dominated Christmas again over the Mitchells and Beales it would probably create another backlash against them. Another Carter Christmas would definitely be overkill. However, if they went totally quiet over the festive period it might give the impression they're a flagging and fading force after just two years. I think they need New Year's.

Mick and Linda wedding? The end of Dean Wicks? Something else? I wonder what it'll be...

Hopefully it's the end of the scumbag called Dean.

They've done a wedding mixed with a death before when Billy married Little Mo and Jamie died. I'm not comparing the pathetic, scummy rapist with Jamie Mitchell but I'm wondering if that type of scenario might happen.

Dean dying on Linda's wedding day would be about as realistic as Linda revealing her rape ordeal on Christmas. It's too contrived.

It would be contrived but the whole Dean story has been handled in such a tacky fashion I can imagine a sensationalist route like this being taken, I mean they used a rape reveal as a Christmas ratings extravaganza.

Danny Dyer stated months ago that Dean's storyline wouldn't be resolved until Christmas, so the New Year's Day episode may very well be about Dean.

Buster foreshadowed his death in dialogue several weeks ago, and at the same time, he foreshadowed Vincent's.

Interesting.

So this all but guarantees a focus on the Mitchell and Beales on Christmas Day. That makes me happy.

I'd like to see Shabnam in there somewhere.

If they did this over Xmas Day again then yes there would be a backlash since The Mitchells/Beales have dominated most of the Summer and Autumn so far. but if it is on New Years Day and gets rid of Dean once and for all, count me in!

If Kellie Bright does as well as expected on Strictly she's going to have a very heavy work schedule assuming she features heavily in the story. I hope that doesn't mean a big Carter story with Linda reduced to a background role again.

I want those Xmas/New Years to be an ensemble piece not focus on one family at a time.

Bingo. 2011 Christmas wasn't the strongest but I liked how the Mitchells, Masoods and Foxes all had their moments. Whilst I did enjoy the Carter Christmas, it needed more "Christmassy" scenes with the other families. Hopefully they get a good balance this year.

I assume they'll be sharing the limelight with Ronnie's latest New Year's Day trauma. Plague of locusts this year I believe.

I love the idea of ensemble Christmas episodes but I suppose one big centralised story is easy to advertise and considered better ratings bait.

I am here for an hour of Les Coker going "Ahhhh!" while he struggles getting the giblets out of the turkey.

Classic Christmas viewing, it will rival the 30 million viewers for Dens 'Appy Christmas Ange' and we will still be talking about it in 30 years time!

They've been in the background a lot recently so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's a Carter New Year.
